Would you consider this alcoholism?

I drink a bottle of vodka a week. A fifth. Now spaced out over 7 days that's not THAT much. But I usually drink it quickly in 2 days (on the weekend when I don't have to work). I don't drink anything on the week days when I do work. I drink about 1/2 - 3/4 on SAT in a few hours ( :) ) then the rest on Sun. This is not social drinking I just like to get a little smashed on the weekend and browse the web :)

I don't think so. Maybe cause it models my drinking habits :D Then again I have a pretty high tolerance.

Well I don't have many "relationships". I've long had social anxiety issues so I've never socialized much my whole life.

If you don't /have/ to drink the vodka, I'd say you're ok. I can't relate to alcoholism as I don't really enjoy the buzz. I drink solely for the flavor. If you find yourself craving drinks on your "off" days, it might be time to chillout for a bit.

Try not drinking for 30-40 years. If you can do that you are not an alcoholic
/sarcasm

here's a good rule of thumb. if you have to ask the question it means you are.

No I don't go out when I drink. Like I said I just stay home and watch movies or browse the web. While I have almost no social life I'd say I socialize much more on the week days when I don't drink (at work with customers) than on the weekends when I'm at home and do drink.

so start drinking at work and see how much more sociable you are with customers. We need mroe trials in this investigation before we can define our terms here.....

So long as we are being scientific about it I'll need to print up some questionnaires for some of my regular customers. You know the usual "do I seem drunk", "how sociable do I seem right now", "would you go out with me", "what's your number" etc etc... Have them rate me on a scale of 1-10 every hour while I take shots every 20 mins or so. Might be hard to get by boss to sing off on this though hmm...

A bottle of vodka over the weekend is a lot by my standards. I usually have a beer on weekend nights, and maybe a glass or two of some wine or port.

hard to say

the whole concept of alcoholism is too vague to begin with

I personally never drink by myself, so that sounds like a lot to me to be drinking by yourself.

Alcoholism has nothing to do with quantity or frequency. It's about a lack of control.

 No, that's alcohol abuse. Some say there is a fine line between abuse and alcoholism. Quantity and frequency would have a lot to do with alcoholism.
