Would you clone your pet?

Scientists say it proves clones don't necessarily turn out to be exact copies.

That might upset people who'd hoped to clone their much-loved pets

Even if it did turn out an exact copy, that's still not the pet they lost. Once you lose a pet, it's gone, clone or no clone. Cloning can't bring back a lost loved one, it just gives you another one like it.

Yep, and since it never can produce the same copy unless you put it through the exact same environmental influences, well there's just no point.

That's very disappointing that the clone is not an exact copy of the original: different color and personalities in the first cat cloned. Makes me wonder if the process needs improvement. Or maybe that certain genetic information in DNA allows for variation. Maybe I am genetically an exact duplicate of my brother, except this variation permits us to be different.

The changes in physical appearance is due to the different environmental influences.

I just wish there'd be a little bit of my pet in the next one... too bad we tied him off already so he can't be a daddy. 🙁

I wouldn't mind a clone even if they looked nothing or acted nothing alike... you know there's just a bit of the old guy in him... just as long as the cost isn't astronomical. I have a soft spot for pets I guess.
