Would you choose to be born?

Given the state of the world, your life, relationships, childhood, career, finances, whatever do you think you would've have better off never having graced the earth's surface?

Do you wish your parents would've done more planning when it came to your birth?

question is a paradox. I can't have been better off not existing if I didn't exist in the first place.

I'm ambivalent. Right now, things are pretty good. As far as the world goes, the more fucked up it gets, the better I'll do, government interference not withstanding. I wouldn't mind everything going tits up. That way I can die choking the shit out of someone who needs it, rather than in a puddle of drool in my bed.

I'd rather not have been, unless my parents were rich enough to where I never had to think about money. Just travel around the Earth, doing whatever I wanted every day in complete luxury.

My life isn't bad, and not struggling in any way. Just sucks that life pretty much revolves around going to work M-F for decades to support yourself, looking forward to weekends and maybe retiring in your late 50s at best.

Sure. Life is interesting enough. Unless of course there's some infinite heaven/hell type thing going on I'm not aware of. You know, some ancient undiscovered religion was right and we're all screwed. :p

The Norse myths say that when a baby is born, the three Nornar (women of destiny, left) choose the moment of its death. The Norse people believed that while nothing else in life was predetermined, no man could live past the moment chosen for him by the Nornar. Nothing could change that time, regardless of whether a person stayed at home in bed, or went out on bold adventures. Since there was nothing to lose and everything to gain by being venturesome, Norse people tended to be bold and daring, seeking out ways to increase honor and enhance their good names.

This is a stupid question unless you're working on an assumption that you're in "Heaven" chillin' and then being asked this question.

What if you didn't exist, how could you answer? If you did exist, you have to compare it to something?

Having the choice to be born involves near omnipotence when viewed from the point of view of the living, so the question becomes choosing between remaining a God or choosing to be born in a frail human shell and losing most of yourself? o_O

I would definitely choose to be born, however I have always said the world needs to enact restrictions on whom can and can't reproduce. But that will never happen so Idiocracy here we come!

I suppose that would require the knowledge of my state of existence of being Pre-Born.

Not being born is way better than being born!
Think of it
No debts
No speeding tickets
No liberal party nonsense
No fridge door to close
No snow tires.

What's to like ?

The world as a whole is screwed up these days, and even "free" countries are slowly being taken over by draconian government agendas but in general I'd say we still have it pretty good. I'd still choose to be born given the choice.

Probably not. I have endured hardships and obstacles all my life and while it would be one thing if I had gained a few meaningful things on the other side, when I look at what I've got I cannot honestly say it was worth what I've gone through to get here. The sole reason I have not thrown in the towel already is purely because doing so would not so much end the pain as much as it would merely shuffle it around to another.

Life is about hardships. Even the wealthy experience hardships.

I'm very grateful that I'm here on earth. Think about it. Because you are alive is a miracle. Your sperm fought the odds against millions of other sperm. And boom... You're born. Perfectly intact. No defects. I have gratitude for being alive.

A lot of folks are born with defects.
