A friend of mine is actually named Wang, we call him wangbang though.

The best way to counter insults about your name is to turn the nickname or name into a badge of honor - doing that is rather difficult though ;)

In India, a common name is "Hardik" (pronounced Hur-deek)

Anyways, my uncle in CA who moved to the US about 10 years ago named his kid Hardik. 6 months later he changed it after we all explained to him what kind of tough times the kid would go through in school. The mom was adamant about keeping the name, and did not want to listen to any reasoning. Thank god he has some b@lls.
