I first thought Intel was upgrading HSFs for its retail CPUs. Then maybe it is for the upcoming CPUs.

In the past few days, original “Tower” cooler which is suitable for Intel LGA1156 interface processor to be listed , its model is XTS100H. Interface processor was designed by using 3 pipe, and its height is 133MM, weight is 865G, Pairing up with rotate speed 800-2600rpm side blown type fan, noise is 17dBA-45dBA. In addition, no timing gear in the head, users can set “S” mute or “P” mode relying on your practical situation.

It turns out a stand-alone HSF for LGA1156, which basically is a 980X HSF with 1156 mounting clips. And the kicker is:

Now, Intel interface processor has been sold in Japan Autumn Sales filed, its price is 4980 yen, is about $54.

It's refreshing to see the corporation has a sense of humor. :awe:

here's a link to the 980X cooler:

looks decent to be honest but for that price, it's up there with promeg. but I bet for some people not in the know might be lured by the 'made by intel' official stamp on the cooler thinking it's 'more compatible' and 'better made' than other coolers. someone's got to make money off newbies might as well be intel. :]

it didn't fare that well in spcr's review. certainly not worth paying $54 for. you can get a hyper 212 for $30 and that's a much better hsf.

No it's not. The LGA 1366 cooler that comes with 980X has four heatpipes not three. I have not compared it to a VX or Mega Shadow. Honestly it's probably about as effective as an H50. Now that is funny. 😀

Ugh this thing is hot! Like 20°C hotter than Megahalems hot! 😀

4.2GHz at 1.4Vcore loaded with Linpack. Even as hot as it was it was still running without errors or crashing! 😱

The H50 is most likely better than this but I have not tried that on a 980X. I'm getting low on ASS to keep playing with these things. 😉

I don't think it's fair to compare the H50 to this piece of crap. For most people, the H50 runs every bit as well as any air cooler, and better than most... and it makes a lot less noise.

Sure for the < 4.0 GHz crowd. I'd rather have my bacon cooked in the galley, thanks! 😛

I'm in the > 4GHz crowd and it's just peachy. 🙂 Not everyone has a 980X @1.4v, and if they do they're sporting big water gear (or they should be). For what it is, a quiet alternative to big-ass HSF monsters, it's a great product.

From my tests of five H50 samples using this product on current (1366) platform with HT enabled at 4GHz, 1.35VCORE is risky IF you run your system at high loads continuously. At the extreme edge top air coolers kill this thing. That is all I am saying.

I've installed and tested about a dozen of these on everything from Q9550s to i7 930s @4.2GHz and temps have been very competitive with TRUEs or Megahalems (even with HT on), slightly better on S775/1156 and a little worse on S1366. But then, I only test with IBT, I haven't run it 24/7.

I've not had the pleasure of running a 980X, let alone OCing one, but as I said, if a person's gonna plunk down $1k for a chip they're going to go big water, or they should if they have any sense.

H50s are not made the same. I've had multiples and some are good and some are bad.

Yeah, I got a "mediocre" one once, damned thing wouldn't cool well for love or money. I had to send it to Corsair and get a replacement and the one they sent back was fine.
