Would you buy an Iphone 2G to put on TMobile?

I am hard up for an iPhone, but do not want the contract or AT&T. I had a 3GS for a couple months when they launched, however dropped calls, failed connects, and spotty 3G wasn't worth the $100+ a month.

Currently use a VZW phone on Page Plus(MVNO) prepaid to save money. I was thinking of picking up a 2G iPhone and connecting it to the T-Mobile prepaid Even More Plus plan as its only $20 more a month than what I am currently paying and there is no contract.

Is it worth it? I have an iPod touch w/VZW phone, but it is a PITA to constantly carry two devices. T-Mobile's coverage is ok here as long as I do not travel in any rural areas. My biggest concern is whether or not the phone will work inside the building I work. The 3GS w/AT&T did not.

I've used one for years, EDGE is slow, but it works fine.

My daughter & her BF both have 2G iPhones on TMobile with no data plans (they're on a college campus 90% of the time anyway), and you couldn't pry them out of their hands, I've offered them any of the current TMobile phones (I'm due for an upgrade on the family plan) and they both said no...

I'm currently on TMobile with my 3GS, and while EDGE is slower than the 3G speeds I was getting.. it's not by much. Plus TMobile is much cheaper than AT&T. I have a Family Plan with my wife and we pay $110 for 750 min/unlimited web and text.

I give it 1.5 thumbs up. Only downside is that you can't update your phone right away.. you have to wait for the jailbreak teams to release an update to the hacks.

Another question, how easy is to unlock/jailbreak? Doing a google search brings up atricles from 2007-current. Is there a definitive guide somewhere?

EDIT: Looking to buy from ebay and the non-unlocked versions go for less than the unlocked.

I used a 2G iPhone on T-Mobile from when they were first unlocked back in Aug. of 2007 until I upgraded to a 3GS iPhone this summer. It worked fine, and I loved my monthly bill.

I upgraded to the 3GS - and joined the Dark Side (AT&T) - last summer. Primarily I upgraded for the GPS and the better camera, not so much the improvement to 3G internet, although that's been nice.

I would recommend a 2G iPhone on T-Mobile. It works fine, it's cheap, and there aren't that many improvements to the newer 3G and 3GS iPhone's to justify upgrading. My sister has my old one and she uses it on T-Mobile prepaid and loves it.

TBH probably not since they've been out for almost 3 years now and most of them probably have no warranty left, plus they don't seem any cheaper than a 3G iPhone, really...
