PNY 9600GT video card and/or a PNY 8800GTS XLR8 video card, both brand new and sealed in their respective boxes......would you buy one and for how much?

What kind of 8800 GTS? 384MB? 768MB? 512MB? It makes a big difference.

Which card? What resolution? System specs.

Off the top of my head, I'll say neither. I'd purchase another GPU such as ATI 4830 or the NVIDIA GTS250.

I only ask because a local auction house has a bunch of PNY 9600GT's, NIB, and a few 8800GTS, NIB, going up for auction on Saturday. Figure they are part of a bunch of junk dribbling through this auction house that came from Circuit City's closing.

Only asking as they could be a cheap replacement card for a cheapie system.......resolution, system specs are irrelevant. Ultimate price for them is and I really don't want to pay too much. Unfortunately, I cannot view them physically until an hour or so before the auction begins.....but have a photo of them and both look to be 512MB cards.

I think you're thinking 8800GS/9600GSO. The common VRAM configuration of the 8800GTS was 320/640MB (G80) or 512MB (G92).

Beanie: If it's a 512MB GTS (G92), then that's definitely better than the 9600GT. The G92 GTS is barely slower than the 9800GTX.

I would pay maybe $75-80 for the 8800GTS, but only if it was a 512mb, meaning G92 core. For a 9600GT or 320/640mb 8800GTS I'd only pay 55 or 60

I would pay ~$10 less than each of these quoted prices. Since this is an auction sale and PNY's customer service isn't topnotch, it should really be a deal before you pick it up. Given the recent sales online (and the fact that ATi plans on knocking $50 off their cards next month), the above quoted prices aren't much better than some of these online deals.

Kinda depends what you're going to do with the cards.

Are you planning to use in your own system? Upgrading family/friends? Looking to resell?

For personal use or for friends upgrades I would give about $40 for 9600GT and up to $75 for 8800GTS (only if 512MB model). If the GTS is a 320MB/640MB model I wouldn't buy it unless it was extremely cheap - like around $45 or so - and for personal use I just wouldn't period.
