Foreclosure? Might need $100,000 in work. Don't get all starry eyed until you've had a home inspection.

Screw that street. I'd just like to know where you CAN buy a house for $75,000. A house that size would cost at least $400,000 in my area.

Hard to say. I live in Peoria, IL and those strees looks like a couple around me. Same with Omaha, NE. You have these super cute areas full of well maintained, very cool homes. But they are surrounded by ghettoville slums and you have to drive through said warzones daily to get to & from work. Plus the school districts are usually absolute hell in those areas and the resale ability is sketchy.

It's very surreal. The difference of one block goes from small scale castle looking homes owned by high income yuppies to Section 8 slumloard crackhomes.

The home isn't for me, this is a hypothetical. Assume the home is in very good shape, as good as any of the homes in the photos. The actual prices is $75,000.00, no liens, no back taxes, privately owned.

Depends. Where it is located? What is the market value for similar homes? What is the rental value of a home in that area?

I know what you mean, there are some areas in my neighborhood like that. In one place there are some ghetto apartments, and you literally turn a corner and there are nice homes. Not even a gap or a street in between. There is another street where the homes are all amazingly maintained and it's a beautiful neighborhood, and my only guess is that a bunch of retirees live there, while just a street over is what I call "the ghetto P", because it's a place that the roads are in the shape of a P. I drove in there once and felt more out of place than walking through downtown Oakland. No plans to ever go through there again.

Where I live is somewhere in the middle. It's kind of a transition between the original owners dieing off and some younger owners buying in and settling in for a long run.

Sure, I'll take the one on the corner for 75k.

In reality the problems being: a)if it's 75k in that neighborhood, whats wrong with it. b)If it's foreclosed, what happened to it after they left? c)Can I afford the property tax on a house worth 250+k?

Can you just tell us the deal instead of cockteasing us all morning? From outside appearances of course most people would buy a house there for $75,000. But since there is obviously some other factor here that none of us can see from pictures, just tell us what it is.

Property taxes are quite high, above the national average but we're not talking North East Tri-State levels.

I'm just curious how people will respond impulsively.

depends.

While this side of the street looks nice, I would have to see the full street and house before I would make any sort of decision.

Blocks and blocks in any direction are about the same, some a little nicer some a little less - no ghettos near by.

That doesn't answer my question. You could have pristine houses for miles, but the 75k would be an outhouse. I don't care what blocks and blocks look like, I care what the house looks like.

Read further up the thread. The house is in good shape, no back taxes, no liens, privately owned (not foreclosed on). The house is as good as it looks, which could be any of the homes in the area.
