would YOU buy a Hitachi Deskstar 400GB?

Not if I could buy two 250GB or 200GB drives for less money - which I can... But if I had an app where I needed max data density and I was using OPM, yes, I would buy them. If your question goes to reliability, I would buy w/o a second thought. Just couldn't justify right now as the cost/GB is too high. This week's CompUSA flyer - 200 GB Hitachi drive, 8MB cache, 7200 rpm - $80. AR... $160. vs $400... Hmmmmm...

Not until Hitachi gets their RMA process fixed (read: less than a month turnaround for a replacement).
