There's a 47" HDTV for 999.99. It's discontinued hence the price. The problem is the screen flickers...but apparently the samsung guy is coming out to fix it. So I guess the proper question is would you buy a 47" widescreen HDTV floor model that had been fixed once?

Make sure they toss in an extended warranty for free, or very cheap.

no way.

The TV has been on with full contrast essentially zapping life our of the CRTs. There's way too much risk.

No way.

For $999.99? I'd want even more off and an extended warranty thrown in (or very cheap).

A 55" BRAND-NEW Mitsubishi 16:9 RPTV can be had for $1799 (or so I saw at an HHGregg here in town a couple of weeks ago)

I would not buy it. Floor models are always on at full contrast. This could shorten the life. Contrast should always be set to around 50.

A couple of weeks ago, Fry's had a 47" Panasonic on sale for $999 (new)... So, I'm not sure a floor model at the same price would be a good deal, even though Samsung is probably a better TV. Would I buy one that has been repaired? Nope.

When Fry's did have that sale, I stopped by the local Circuit City to pricematch it. Ended up buying a Sony 51" floor model for $1300. When they delivered the tv the next day, it had a big crack in the side and half of the pic didn't work. I called them up and they said, "Sorry, but that was last year's model and we no longer carry it." But then they offered to substitute a brand new one. :D

That, and little kids running around the store would push the buttons to their limits etc..

If you're going to spend that much on a TV you might as well get a nice new one.

That price is probably without the HD monitor. It is upgradeable. The 55" Mitsu with built-in HD is around the 2600-2900 range.

I bought a floor model 50" Mitsubishi RPTV about 2 years ago and got them to throw in a 3 year warranty, free delivery and free cleaning for 5 years. The set had no scratches on it and looks great. It isn't HDTV but then neither was the price.

BTW-Check and see what kind of digital decoder you need for it. They usually don't come with one and that will add around $500 to the cost.

I was actually going to try to pricematch it elsewhere except for the problem that it's discontinued everywhere and no one has a new one in stock anymore....

Yeah, I wasn't going to buy the decoder cause all I really want the HD for is movies for now...if I get some money later i'll get satellite and get HD football games...

Most sets are sans tuner. I wouldn't want one that was integrated...no way!

Can you get HD via your cable provider? Much cheaper BUT, DISH has a great deal right now!

It's got a year warranty and looks brand new except for the screen flicker which is supposed to be fixed. I'm going to convince them to get me the extended warranty.

What's the expected lifespan in hours? Consider that it has been on for at least 12 hours a day for 6 months to a year.... Calculate the percent of the expected lifespan that has been used. Calculate the percent off that you're getting on the price... compare the two.

Are you an engineer? That's the most logical statement I've seen ever...

Speaking of that, what's the expected lifespan of these things?
