Would you buy a display model receiver (HTIB)?

A local store has a display modem Onkyo HT-S3100B (HTIB) on sale for $300 Canadian. Regular price is $400. The model physically looks OK and it looks like everything works fine. I believe I will get the standard warranty and return policy as well.

This unit fits within my price range and I didn't want an HTIB with a DVD player. I can't find anything else at a comparable price at another Canadian store.

I was also considering a used receiver. But at least this way, I can return it if it's broken.

Update: Discovered the HT-S3100B has no HDMI inputs so I bought a display model Sony HT-SF2000 instead

I've gotten lucky buying floor model products over the years. Nothing bad to report from it in my personal history.

That price on the 3100 doesn't seem like a killer deal though.

ShopOnkyo has had refurbished 3100 sets for ~$150US shipped in the past for example.

I have gotten a couple of store used receivers over the years. At least in our area the receivers were rarely used although they were plugged in. They would be turned on and could be turned up by any customer that wanted but rarely used for more than 10 min a week.

My experience has been that if the unit is not physically dinged up it will most likely be fine

I've purchased a Yamaha YHT380 used and it's been good to me for over a year now

EDIT: and by used, i meant display model at bestbuy. It was less than half price ($120 for 5.1 HTIB with a real receiver)

I should have looked at the specs more carefully and the Onkyo HT-S3100B doesn't have any HDMI support.

I ended up buying a display model Sony HT-SF2000 for $250 Canadian at Best Buy as it had the features I wanted at my price point. It has 3xHDMI inputs and supports HDMI audio. The biggest downside is the speaker connections are proprietary. Also, when I did an auto calibration, it really emphasized the centre channel so that it made things sound hollow. Resetting the unit made it sound like normal to me. I'll have to play with the settings some more though.
