Would you buy a car from Enterprise?

My car was totaled and I'm in the market for a new one. The budget is about $10k. I just turned my rental car in and it seemed nice (2005 VW Jetta) and the lady said they sell their cars for cheap. If they priced well I was thinking about looking into it, but I have reservations about buying a car that 50 people have driven. She said they were all inspected and certified, but I'm still wary.

My current car, a 2008 Pontiac G6 was an Enterprise car, along with my two previous Grand Prix and my grandparents vehicles are also, an 06 Malibu Maxx and an 04 Cadillac CTS. Never really had issues with them, other than the fact my rims were bent on two of my tires, which was discovered after my vehicle was hit. The dealership that actually sold us the vehicle fixed them free of charge.

Probably maintained better than half the cars on the road anyways. Worth a shot for 10K.

From my friend that works at enterprise:

Only buy S-class cars (Malibu/fusion) or premium cars (CTS). Everything else has been abused to hell and back

Yes, right after I open a joint bank account with my roommate.

The "Dukes of Hazard" usually rent those vehicles and drive them, good luck. The oil is changed regularly though. Nothing like having nice clean oil when you are towed into the mechanic.

LOL this is the first thing that came to my mind.

Actually, the best way to buy a used rental car is by paying for it out of a joint bank account with roommates. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

Without hesitation, given the discounted price. Then again, it probably depends on the region where you live. I've never really heard of people abusing rental cars around here, only on the internet.

No way. I used to work in the car rental industry and their service can be spotty. I rented a 2008 Chevy Impala over the summer for about a week while my car was in the shop and the oil life indicator on that car said it had 0% oil life remaining and if the sticker in the window was any indication the car was about 3,000 miles overdue for an oil change. And of course that doesn't take into consideration the abuse rentals can get.

I've abused rental cars personally. :p

Many people treat rental cars like shit. Also, while it's completely anecdotal, my old roommate had a Jetta and it was a certified P.O.S.

I'd stay far, far away.

Yeah, that's pretty much the truth. I work at a rental place. Our Chevy Cobalts look like they've been through a war at times. I know when we sell them, they get detailed, and are fully safetied. Maintenance is regular. If you don't mind them being scratched up a bit, then it's a good way to get a cheap car of your own. You can get SUVs and pickups for a good bargain if gas prices are high.

Probably a bad idea unless it's SUPER low price, think of all the people that drove that car like they did not own it (because afterall, they did not!)

one of my friends did a few years ago and it's worked out fine as far as I know.

I would, but personally, I've decided that my next car is going to be a new one. I've never had a new car and, considering that I'll be in my 30's the next time I'll be looking for a car, I figure it's probably time.

I bought my '05 Focus from Enterprise. One of the nice things about them is their 3-day money-back guarantee. So you can be sure you can take it to a mechanic and get it checked out.

Do have a mechanic check it out! My car is great; but some others weren't.

At an earlier job, my coworker and myself used to do transmission drops and all sorts of hell to the rental cars.
