Yes. I don't by extended warranties, and it isn't like people are going to magically stop making replacement parts for all Fords next week, even if Ford company declared chapter 7 today.

depends on the type of bankruptcy kinda....
chapter 11 I'm sure I'd buy but wait until a couple months after the proceedings were underway to make sure they were just reorganizing and not disbanding.
chapter 7 definitely - get an awesome deal on a car that I would likely void the warranty on anyways :)

there is no way the bankruptcy judge would allow warranties to lapse.

depends on the car.. I'd buy one from a manufacturer that no longer exists if it's right.

It's a bogus question. Would you buy a car from a company that is begging Congress for its life? Same deal.

The focus was shit until like last year maybe? and the fusion has only been out since 06 so I dont know how the reliability stacks up on that one.

The american auto manufacturer wouldn't be in this mess if they made a car that was even comparable to the hondas or toyotas 10 years ago. They may be changing their tune but holy hell do they have a history of "o were fixing it" and then nothing happens.

american cars really arent that bad. unfortunately, unions are too costly and this cost must be passed to consumers in the price of the car. if us labor costs matched foreign costs, we could produce the same cars we are already producing, but at a price that would be much more attractive for what you get. its time to wipe the slate and start again, hopefully having learned some good lessons. i am all for unions, companies can choose to get labor elsewhere and it takes 2 to sign a contract. i think signing the contracts was a mistake, but pumping more money into a failing company is a waste. the govt shouldnt be invovled at ALL but if the people insist, why not funnel the money towards a productive company... lets reward good business instead of bad business... doesnt that make sense to people?

all imo.

American cars aren't nearly that bad of a product, with some exceptions, in the last decade or so. Their quality increased quite drastically. Some as good or better than foreign.

The problem was as mentioned earlier, the price for US made cars is ridiculous mainly due to Unions. Go to Germany, guess what everyone drives there? Mercedes. Why? They are cheap there. I mean dirt cheap compared to what gets sold here and they lose none of the quality. Go to Asia and the same thing with Toyota. Majority of the cars on the road in Japan are Toyotas. Why? Great cars at a great price. I'm talking a Camry is ridiculously cheap over there compared to here.

So why can't US auto manufacturers do the same? simple, they are greedy bastards who hire through greedy unions. Meaning, that they have to pay someone $45 an hour just to change a lightbulb.

Unions were needed way back in the day before the government did it's job in making the work place as it is today. Meaning, minimum wages, non discrimination, benefits, so on and so forth. At a time, the government didn't do this, usually due to corruption, and the Unions were needed. Now it's the Unions that are corrupted and need to get the fack out. They are a dinosaur in this day and age.

If the big 3 were able to sell their current line up of cars at half the price of the current offering or less and still turn profits, this bail out wouldn't even be needed. 70% of Americans would be driving domestic made cars instead of the other way around.

So would I buy a car from a company gone bankrupt? If the price is right then I'll make the shoe fit :) Meaning if Mustang GT V8's were suddenly at $10K or less, I'd be trading in right now for one.
