it doesn't make me want to get an SUV-- then you're just part of the problem. it does worry me, living in LA, where so many d-bags drive SUVs and drive like they own the road, all while talking on their cell phones.

I'll stick with my sedan. It's not exactly a small car, it would fare better than a compact like a civic, but if I were to run into such a car my frame will be at their same level and we'll both be better off for it.

My Corolla has side-curtain air-bags which helps somwhat, but simple laws of physics dictate that the lighter of two cars will absorb the bulk of the energy in accident... note however that the SUV did what SUV's do in a serious accident much of the time... rolled over.

I'd think it would be obvious that a larger & heavier vehicle would be safer in this type of collision... I however will continue to "live on the edge" in my small car.


Edit: Note btw that BY FAR the safest vehicles in an accident of any type are large sedans with front & side airbags, not SUV's of any kind which tend to roll over easily & handle poorly.

Easy solution: Ban anything over 6 cylinder, unless the driver obtains a special business permit. This makes car manufacturers make either lighter or smaller cars (lighter SUV's are will fail based on rollover ratings). Then enforce the lower chassis the video talked about. Saves on the gas shortage and safety.

Wow, what an ignorant statement. It has nothing to do with the number of cylinders, in fact many v8 engines weigh much less and are smaller than many v6's.

How about we just accept life is dangerous and go on? Look at ANY car built in this decade, and compare it to years ago. We have airbags, crumple zones, side curtains, side airbags, anti-lock brakes...etc. There comes a point where it becomes less cost effective to try and make sweeping changes in all cars for something that actually happens fairly infrequently. It seems like every year we want everything to be safer and be protected at all times...

Quick solution? Side mounted rocket launchers on smaller sedans. Blow that suv to pieces before it can even make contact. I really hate those damn suvs. They all need to be scrapped one way or another.

I drive a V6 Toyota Tundra (pickup truck), and was thinking to buy an S2000 for my next car. I'm not too sure about that, after watching this. I roadster would be roadkill in an accident. I am now thinking more on the line of a coupe.

i always make sure that whatever car i want to buy is the safest in it's class and stylish.
