I built a comp for my friend a few years ago, with SLI 470's. He is now upgrading to SLI 580's. He offered to sell me the 470's for $200 for both.

I dont really need them my OC'ed 460's are just as fast and i only game at 1080p so the added memory doesnt matter to me but....

My g/f is starting to game more and is on a 4870 right now, i could give her one and put the other in my HTPC which is also getting used more and more for gaming and has a very lacking 4830 in it right now. Both systems PSU's can handle it.

I personally overclocked these cards for my friend and they clock well.

Would you do it? i know when 28nm is here and the power savings offered it seems retarded to buy a fermi but it seems like a good deal.

Balla, you have a call on line 4.

(Personally I would not get the 470SLI for various reason: power/noise/heat, potential issues with multi-GPU bugs and incompatibilities, and the other things you could buy with $200 (especially used, since the 470s are also used). Could get a brand new, more-efficient, warrantied single-GPU 7850 for $240 and overclock the heck out of it for instance.)

Edit: forgot to add that it also depends on your gaming resolution forecast. 2GB VRAM vs. 1.28GB VRAM. For lower to mid resolution 1.28GB is fine though.

Dual gtx 470's are a LOT faster than an overclocked 7850, that's a ridiculous argument. Or, in this case, the OP actually can split them up and get even more usage out of them. $100 each for those cards, especially because you are familiar with them, sounds like a good deal to me.

I realize i could get a better GPU for $200-250, but buying 2 470's lets me upgrade 2 systems for $200. I dont think i could upgrade the 2 systems GPU's for $200.

This is what i was thinking, and the stock coolers have zero usage on them(they have been under water).

Did you read my post in its entirety? It's not a matter of only performance (though a 7850 heavily oc'd is no slouch and gets close to a stock 7970 at times so I don't know where you are getting your "dual gtx 470's are a LOT faster" data from). Plus new w/ warranty vs. used.

I was thinking of offering $150, they both have been running at 815Mhz, but thats underwater.

815 isn't too bad, what voltage and temps is he hitting?

Are they gpu only blocks, or full cover blocks?

815Mhz 470s would be above GTX 570 SLI stock performance, and a shade under 580 SLI performance in most titles.

they lived under dangerden full cover blocks, temps were well under 70c gaming, would creep up close to 80c under prolonged abuse(furmark)

OP I forgot to ask you what your resolution was. At 1920x1200 or lower I think you would be fine with the 470s which have 1.28GB VRAM which can't be added together despite the SLI, IIRC. But if you think you're going to go higher res in the near future, I would consider getting a card with more VRAM.

Most 470's are going for $130-$150 used, so $100 is a great deal imo.

They sound hot though, not sure they'll do well on reference air. Might want to find that out first.

Can't really beat that deal for multiple system upgrades. If psu's are an issue just use the 470's for yourself. The 460's can go in your gf's and htpc.

At a bill a piece I'd buy them just to mess around with. That's the price used 460s usually sell for.

OP I think $200 for those cards is a fair price. If you can live with the drawbacks of SLI you will probably be very happy with them.

I loved my 470 when it was underwater. I would advise against getting one if you aren't going to WC it. That card is a loud and hot mother on ref air. You will hit 90C and be clocked at around 700mhz stock. You could buy them to resell if you don't feel bad about doing that, and upgrade to something a bit better. If you were adding them to a loop, they would be beasts.

I think if i had that deal local i would jump all over it,i would sell one for about $80 and keep the second one.

I want to pick up a used card for under $100 off craigslist soon to replace this 4 1/2 year old 8800gts g92 512mb card, need something to hold me over till the gtx670 comes out so think a $80 gtx275 would do me good.

BF3 is barely borderline playable on my 8800gts 512mb at 1920x1080 low so could really use a better spare card...god the rest of the kepler llineup can't come fast enough.
