The new movie Ender's Game will be released next week. It's looks pretty cool and I like the Sci-Fi genre. I read that the author of the books has some very conservative views on homosexuality/gay marriage and other topics such as global warming and other writings. Would you go out of your way to not support or watch a movie or show based on the personal beliefs of the author or director or actor? Same thing with people like Sean Penn or Alec Baldwin based on what they have espoused from a liberal point of view. .

It really depends on how those views I take issue with are pushed in the movie/show. If they're not really a part of it all then I don't really care.

That for the main part.

I think everything about Tom Cruise is awful, but I still will watch his movies and the last one that took place in the future was a pretty solid movie.

Nah, I saw The Ghost Writer twice in the theatre. I also still watch Mel Gibson movies.

not really, because I'm not an idiot like that.

Roman Polanski and Mel Gibson seem to be rather deplorable humans, but they make great films for the most part.

I avoid Tom Cruise movies, though, but only because Tom Cruise's shit acting distracts me from everything else around him.

Should include the option, "pay to watch", downloading the work of people you despise is legitimate protest of their views.

I'd made a night of it for Ender's Game, a great book series with plenty of fresh new concepts, enjoy the movie while eating a Chickfilet dinner.

if his views are his personal, private views? no.

if he's very public and vocal about them, and his bigotry slips into the work that he creates like it does with OSC... absolutely. why encourage Hollywood to give him more money when it's just going to get funneled to hate groups?

I tend to "boycott" the works of certain individuals because the work is shit (see: Tyler Perry). If someone in that list also happens to be controversial because of their beliefs, well, I can'tcontrol that.

I think everyone has something they struggle with. Bill Clinton, Martin Luther King Jr., JFK - all great leaders, but not very good morals. Christopher Columbus - great explorer, some not so great other aspects of his life. Look at actors. Tom Cruise gets a lot of flack for being a Scientologist, but I still like watching his movies. Mel Gibson is all over the map, but Lethal Weapon was still pretty good. etc. etc. etc. You can look at people for their perceived flaws, or you can just focus on their output to the world.

Nah. If I want to watch a movie, I don't tie it to anything. That's for morons who think it actually makes any difference. It doesn't.

No. I really don't know which actor is which nor care too much. As long as they shut up ans act, it's all good. I'll even watch a Mel Gibson movie.

no. Sean Penn is a great actor in just about everything he does but I can't stand him off screen.

Nope. I'm as socially liberal as they come, but Ender's Game is great book and it doesn't pander to any specific religion or political viewpoint. I didn't find out that OSC was kind of a religionut until quite a while after I had read Ender's Game, and it surprised me a great deal. It comes out a bit in some of his later Ender books though.

Also, Apocalypto is awesome no matter how stupid Mel Gibson is.

I bought his book, but I'm not going to the movie because it will be bad and he's a fucking loon.

Republican views on global warming 30 years ago = Dems view today. So if anything the authors views are not conservative enough.

Still prolly watch it though. :)

Yes. I never watch anything Blubber Moore put out for example.

That's probably for content related reasons though.

If he directed Avengers 2 and from all reports it was twice as awesome as the first Avengers, would you see it? I would.
