would you believe this is a $50 paint job?

Sounds like over $1000 in labour...
How much do you value your time?

HE PUT A $50 PAINT JOB ON A 1970 CHARGER?????????? IS HE INSANE?????

That car is worth more than the owner. I'm sure it'll look that good in a month or two

Also, it's not a close up pic- no telling what it looks like up close.

if the paint only cost 50 bucks it is going to look like ass in a few months. the paint that OEMs use is anywhere from 150-250 / gallon alone.

He said he painted other cars, like the blue beetle and an orange beetle in '99 and '00 and they still look as good as the day he painted them

i painted the orange beetle in 1999, and it still looks like the day i painted it, the 71 blue beetle i painted in 2000, and built the car for my dad, i used the same paint on my charger, maybe one day i'll spring for a good paint job, prepping is 90% of the work, stripping the car, sanding, ect.....painting is overrated!!!

Of course, they probably weren't daily drivers. I'm thinking any paint job will look like the day you painted it if it's stored in the garage 99% of the time?

Whoa. That's really something.

I always WAS suspicious of how much paint jobs run. I'd probably be willing to try that method on my car someday..it's starting to get a lot of rock chips. After all, it's the labor, not the paint, that costs the big $$$.

Yes, and homebuilt computers that only cost $1k will run like crap, since Alienwares cost $4k?

"Auto" paint is expensive, because people are willing to pay for it. Not because it costs more to make.

Well since those seemed like project cars, time didn't seem of the essence.

If I still had my '83 Escort, I would have given it a try. Of course the car was worth $50, so painting it would have doubled it's value ;)

That guy's a real good liar. I didn't bother reading past the 1st page in that thread, but were there anybody stupid enough to paint their car w/ some paint in a bucket?
