Actually one thing that would be fun is take your car on a nascar track with nobody else on it, then you can do speeds like that all you want in a relatively safe environment that is designed for it. This would be fun with a mid end car just to see how far you can push it.

No, regardless of car once you start getting up there in speed you lose time to react to traffic or even things that you see on the road. if you're at 150 mph you better be damn sure nothing is going to get ahead of you because it will take forever to stop.

i drove on the unlimited parts of the autobahn, but i just had a low end fiat, so i only went ~200 kph , that was fast enough for me

I once rode a bike at 120 mph for a hundred miles on I-80 through Nebraska then I had to stop for gas. :)

there's only a handful of cars that could reach 250 mph, and only 1 road suitable i know of. yes, i would drive a bugatti, mclaren or similar to 250 mph on sections of the autobahn.

On todays roads with todays speed limits and todays drivers, no.

However, if the speed of traffic was moving faster, and the roads were designed for that kind of traveler speed, then sure, why not?

I've gone 130mph on a motorcycle and that was scary as shit.

I did 120mph in my old '88 Beretta GT and it started shaking so much I thought my tires would fall off.

No way in hell would I go that fast in a car unless it has some new tech that doesn't exist now that makes it crazy safe.

I've done 100 Mph (160 Kmh) on a fairly empty, straight stretch of highway with a 3m shoulder and 3m empty lane to the other side.

I'm uneasy taking slight curves over 120 Kmh, so no way in hell would I go that fast.

145mph in a 70½ Camero was my limit. I had to clock my brother in a 77' Trans Am that had a speedo that only went up to 120mph. The Camero speedo went to 150. Really fucking stupid thing to do.

The top speed of a Bugatti Veyron is 253 mph which is the fastest car in production so whether I be willing or not is not the problem. ;)

Anything over 150mph on a public road is starting to get very dangerous just from possible road debris and imperfections in the road. Not even mentioning other drivers. The Veyron can do 253mph however the fuel will run out in 12 minutes at that speed. On one show I did watch somebody push a modified Porsche over 200mph on the German Autobahn.

No way. You just wouldn't have time to react to something unexpected at that speed.

Fastest I've driven on public roads is 120mph in a rented Lotus Elise on the 5 freeway south of San Clemente. I hit a good stretch of open road with almost no traffic so I just opened it up for about a half mile or so. That speed felt completely safe in that car too.

I've hit 110mph on my bike but never pushed it any further.

I took my fathers SRT8 to 130MPH on a clear stretch here in the Bronx, and only backed off because of traffic ahead. I've ridden in my brothers Evo X on the turnpike up to about the same.

Fastest I've ever travelled was about 140-145 in the same SRT8.

I've taken my GLi to 115 or so, and backed off because of damaged front tires. (That was plain stupid.)

Would I go 255 if I had the stretch? Hell fucking yes.

Ive driven from DFW to Phoenix about 7 times. Its a 1000 mile drive with long stretches of desolation on I20. Hardly any traffic sometimes and rarely a patrol. It is wise however not to push your luck. ;)

I hate 20, I take it from Mesquite into Arlington to visit parents. Straight and nothing to look at other than fighting your eyelids from closing

Impressive. I wouldn't have thought you had it in you.

I've only done 145 in a 'vette - on an empty, straight section of interstate. It was so smooth, it was boring. I've done 110 on a bike. It sucked. I think ~200 would be my limit on a public access highway. Above this, you need start thinking airplanes.

I got up to 111mph and my car started shaking and wobbling so I decided that was its max speed. I felt pretty safe at that speed until my car gave out. I can't even imagine double that, but I'd say if I was able to slowly work up to that speed (and I knew it was completely safe) then I'd reach 250mph. It wouldn't be some regular occurrence though.

I got up to 120 on my V6 1995 Camaro while racing until the engine could only slowly give me more speed.

Depends what and where I am driving. In the right car on the right road, 250 would be fine. However, there are very few places that the road (and other drivers) would support 120+ mph let alone 250. Most highways would be fine in the 90-100 range.
