Done a few 130mph sprints but couldn't imagine cruising at those speeds. Pretty much a guaranteed death if even the slightest thing goes wrong.

I'm sure if I had a car that can do 250 I'll convince myself to max it out sooner or later though.

The reason why a lot of cars are speed limited to around 130 is that most tires arent rated to drive above those speeds without risking a blowout.

Given the opportunity - 90 is where I'd probably drive on a highway given relatively good conditions in my car. 100 would be pushing it in my car.

If I had a really nice sports car, I think I'd still do at most 120/130.

150 fastest I have went between LA and SF on the 5, and only for a minute, was getting nervous at 130 driving an Infinity G35, and drove an old 79 transam up to 135 that was much more nerve-racking I guess it depends on the car and road.

Been to 140 once with my car with a sidewind. To be honest, it felt terribly unstable due to all the lift. Probably one of the scariest things I've done. The Road was very smooth and straight. My miata was even worse. It started getting light at 110.

I can't imagine what 250mph would feel like. Top gear had a segment where James May took a Veyron up to 250mph+. He said it was a breeze, but there's no way you could react to anything at that speed.

Depends what freeway. There are some smooth as glass in south west USA because you'd need it, any bump will send you flying and rolling at 250 MPH i.e. DEAD. Have to be abandoned though oh and straight line.

no, you never know when you're gonna get a blowout... or hit a pelican.

you better have some special tires to handle that speed too.

The freeways here in Cali? No way.

I80 in Nevada, where it's a beautiful 10 mile straight stretch of smooth tarmac? Sure.

My car speedometer is 156, and the fastest I ever gone on 2 or 4 wheels were 137.5 (smokey clocked me).

Only if the car I'm in is either fully automated or has a whole bunch of features current cars don't. Also, I better be in a vacuum tube because otherwise fuel economy at those speeds is gonna suck hard.

my car shakes when it goes past 60... I frequently do 85-90 though and once in a while, I'd pay attention to the vibrations, it feels like it's gonna take off...

No way. Maybe on a motorcycle... But if some jackass makes a lane change without looking I am uber fuckedzored. Whereas on a bike I can just kinda squeeze between cars and lanes... :awe: Also, the roads up here are not in the condition to be driving that fast on.

150 is already ridiculously inefficient, and you outrun your lights at night... 250 is kinda nuts.

You don't have enough time to stop if something shows up in your lights. you don't actually outrun them.

I think that this is one of those "it depends" questions for me. I mean if I was in a Honda Civic, the only way that I could get to 250 MPH is to drop off a 10 mile cliff and I probably still wouldn't hit 250 before hitting the ground and splattering my brains all over the front windshield.

If I was in a Veyron though and had a large, open STRAIGHT road with NO cars on the street, I would peg the pedal to the floor until I saw 250...

I'm sure that doing 150 MPH in a super car feels like doing 60 MPH in your every day Toyota or Honda...

Highest Ive personally done was 130 for about 10 seconds. The highest ive been in a car was about 190-200 in my friend's Lambo.. which at that point i almost peed my pants.

I would do it if conditions were such that I had a good chance of walking away at the end of it. A car made to go that fast, a long straight stretch of road, and no traffic. I've been as high as 140, and would have gone more if it had been on tap. I've always liked speed, the more the better. As I get older, I just get more cautious about where I let it out.
