No, I would not be offended. As others have pointed out, many women have established a professional identity that would get messed up by that.
A word of caution to those who go with the hyphenation or 4 name system:
It will get messed up by so many businesses and agencies. I have seen where no amount of letter writing or phone calls could get it straightened out.

probably. somehow i doubt these women refuse engagement rings because they are sexist.

My wife is a college professor and a published author. Of course she kept her maiden name - she spent her whole life working her ass off to make it mean something. Our kids get my last name. I had no problem with it at all, though some of the older members of her family were a little wierd about it.
