A note to aidanjm's detractors:

You know, to be fair let's think about this objectively.

If your sexual and romantic interest in women brought you constant disgust, hate and scorn from a large portion of the population, and those reactions were almost daily in occurrence, how would YOU react?

I can almost guarantee it would dominate your thinking and world view, and the subject would be prominent in many of your posts.

aidanjm is a young gay man who is open about his sexuality. As such, he faces near constant negative reactions in his day to day life. A situation few of us would be able to tolerate, and of those with the strength to live with that, most would become jaded activists.

The suicide rate of young gay men is alarmingly high. Is it any wonder why?

I can see logic and common sense isn't totally dead
Damn it all, just when you think you've exterminated it, it comes crawling back out of the woodwork.

No, though it is extremely rare that I get asked.

If someone askes me point blank I tell them. I've had the typical "OMG..eww" reaction before and I tell them not to ask questions they don't want to know the answers to then.

I think I would be mainly because I don't really see what business it is of anybody's. Not because fags offend me or anything. . .it just seems a bit forward and nosy.

I am a closet straight man.

Metrosexual?

Yes and no. Not overly done. All within good taste.

Wasn't Abe Froman the "Sausage King of Chicago," though? ;)

Sorry, I couldn't resist that one.

Touche

Actually, when I went to look that up and confirm it I discovered there is a band called, "Abe Froman and the Sausage Kings," another band called "Save Ferris," and numerous other Bueller-inspired musical acts. :p

Save Ferris isn't bad, I have never heard Abe Froman and the Sausage Kings. I am just a junkie for the movie. I like Chicago a lot too. I was actually thinking about just hopping on a flight this week to go visit friends from College there...but the damn "Winter Storm" is screwing up my social agenda.

It has never happened but probably not.
Gay men always seem to like me though. I don't know why.

No, I wouldn't be offended. Better that than somebody I'm not interested in hitting on me for a while.

You really need to stop. There are places for this, and places NOT for this.

I'm not a homophobe, but c'mon....you know what you're doing, and it doesn't belong here, AFAIC.

My opinion is that I have no problem with aidanjm posting threads like this. This is an off-topic forum, and he's free to post just as you are; if you don't like it, ignore him.

Regarding the question in the OP: I would not be offended. Depending on who's asking, I might or might not give a truthful answer, however.

The suicide rate of all young men is alarmingly high :(

I have no quarrel with aidanjm and if he's decided to take the role of gay activist, that's his concern. He just never seems to get that it grates after a while for some people.

It stops grating the minute you objectively imagine walking a mile in his shoes.

hmm. Is somebody forcing him to be "openly gay," as you describe it? Can't he just go to gay hangouts on his free time, and not discuss his sexuality with the rest of the world (which probably doesn't care much anyway)?

How would you react if you could never mention your girlfriend? Never mention what girls you thought were hot? Never talk about your dates?

Suggesting the cure is forcing a gay man to live in secrecy is absurd. YOU wouldn't want to live like that, so how in the hell can you suggest others do it?

These are all fine, as are posting on ATOT YAGT in an attempt to gauge the other person's reaction. I had a gay acquitance once though, who wouldn't stop talking about what he had done with this guy, (hint, it wasn't just going out for dinner with them). He was quite a man slut and it was sick. We all wanted him to just STFU. I don't talk about what I've done in the bedroom with a girl to an acquitance, thats just not right. Thankfully he eventually got the clue and went away.

No, I wouldn't be offended.

But I would wonder why they were asking, as it doesn't have much or any impact on 99.99999+% of the population(I'm only sleeping with one person).

maybe he thinks you are cute, and wants to know if he has a chance :p

Fair enough; nothing a quick reaffirmation of one's status can't clear up.

In that situation, you just give a polite no thanks. I've had it happen before, it's no big deal.

I guess I was just trying to point out that unless you are trying to sleep with someone, it doesn't really affect you.

I get hit on by dudes once or twice a month normally at the mall. I guess I have a "gay" look.

Actually i remember I was at the mall one time and 2 military guys come up to me and ask me where all the gay hangouts are. I said i didn't know and they gave me a funny look.
