would you be interested in knowing about your family's life before you were born?

I'm a writer... it's not what pays my bills, but it's probably the thing I do best in my life.

on the cusp of my big sister's wedding in two weeks, I had a sleepless night yesterday thinking about, you know, life, the universe, 42. and I got the idea that it might be neat to start like a journal type of book for my future niece or nephew, documenting what his family's life was like before s/he was old enough to remember... his parents wedding, buying their first house, pacing around the waiting room at the hospital, all that stuff that everyone kinda sorta remembers but never really documents in the heat of the moment, maybe with some color commentary / newspaper clipping of what was going on in the outside world at the time and then giving it to them on their 18th birthday or something.

good idea or something a creepy uncle would do? 😛

I guess we can see why it's not paying the bills. 😛

I don't know, things about your family might be ok, but adding other stuff seems a bit too much. the problem is keeping it updated.

great idea! 🙂

i would love to see a dairy or scrap book that my mother kept about when she and my father first met... their first dance, their first kiss, and so on and so on... (no sex references though)

I think that's a really cool idea. I really enjoy looking through pre-me family photos and videos. (although the ones with me as a baby pretty much rock too. Maybe not the cutest, but I did a lot of hilarious stuff that I would never have known without pictures/videos.

good idea and be sure to make a few copies. my family moved from IL to GA when i was 10 and the only box that was lost in the move contained all of our family photos. we have a few baby pics and the like that were framed and packed in other boxes but we lost a lot of memories in that move.
