Would you ask your landlord to put something in storage for you?

Who's responsible for the blinds?

  • It's your own damn problem!

  • NO! The landlord should come and take these away!

Weird question, I know, but bear with me.

Let's say you lived in apartment and you didn't like the miniblinds or whatever type of window treatments were up there and you decide to put up your own. To whom would the responsibility of the old miniblinds/drapes/pelts fall? You or the landlord?

We're having a discussionwith someone and this issue has presented itself. We fall on the side of "you took them down so it's your own damn problem," but that's just us.

What say you?

Never rented a place that had anymore than just miniblinds on the windows... if the place is being rented as 'furnished' then I would say it's up to the tenant to deal with it.

Any mod I would make to a place I am renting I would be sure I could undo when it is time for me to move.

Why should the landlord have to store something that you decided to remove from the apartment? You would be responsible for storing them and then returning the apartment back to its original state when you vacate the property. Or if you left them up when you vacated, said property would revert to landlord's ownership.

Ehh, If I was the landlord, and if it was a good tenant who stayed in the same place for 5+ years and generally paid the rent on time every month, I wouldn't give a shit what they did with the blinds and I'd gladly store them.

If I was a landlord, and it was a new tenant who didn't have an established history with me, or if they were a bad tenant who damaged things or whatever, I would do whatever I could to get them to GTFO of my building and pay whatever they owe. If that means storing some stuff so that they don't damage it, then so be it.

If the landlord has more than one property, he might be able to use them somewhere else in the meantime. Might as well run it past him and see what he says.
