Would you ask your boss about this?

I can't decide... one of my coworkers and I were hired on the same day. we have similar work backgrounds, and if anything, my performance in our job is better than his.

yet consistantly, every day we're scheduled to work with eachother, my boss has him scheduled to get out earlier than me. it's not a huge deal... except for Friday (when he gets out at 8 pm and I'm stuck in the office till 1 am), it's only an hour or two difference. it just irks me.

I can't decide if I should ask my boss about it and run the risk of coming across as a whiny b!tch, or just stfu and ignore the fact that I'm getting kinda screwed over.

edit: bumpage for an update

apparantly my boss didn't even realize it, and evened out our schedules once I brought it to his attention. I'm still working the later shift on Fridays, which kinda sucks, but my hours got bumped from 4 pm - 12 am to 2 pm - 10 pm.

Well I think since you stay later, he realizes you are better and wants you to stay longer, not the other guy.

well i thought this was a matter of whom he likes more :p

yeah that does suck, but it also shows that you do a better job, so that speaks for itself.

Are you paid hourly or salary? If hourly, STFU and be happy you earn more by working more. If salary, do you have a higher salary? If so, STFU and be happy you earn more. If you answered no both questions, demand a raise and show that you work more hours and are more productive as the reason you deserve it.

salary + I don't know. we started at the same level, but I have no clue what he got after our year-end evaluations when raises were calculated.

we both work the same amount of hours, he just works better hours than I do ;)

Email the boss, make it look like it's from the other guy, and ask for later hours. On Friday, on your way out early, key the guy's car or let the air out of his moped for having the nerve to work the hours you'd like for a year while you said nothing.
P.S. you're a pansy

e-mail sent :) thanks for the votes.

e-mail text:

just out of curiosity, what's the deal with me and (coworker in question)? it seems like every day we're working together, he's getting the earlier shift. it's not really a huge issue or anything, since it's only ever a matter of a couple hours, it just seemed kinda weird since neither of us have seniority over the other.

I think the email should have been a little more formaly written...

The E-Mail should've had a more formal approach. If you need help in revisions... let us know. I write for my company all of the time.

I know how to write a formal e-mail ;)

e-mails within my company have always been pretty casual. the fact that my boss is a friend and only 2 years older than me also help.

Yeah, company emails should be proof read to ensure no grammar or spelling mistakes.

Solution: Drink on the job, thus catching up with your friends when you meet up with them.

So why didn't you just ask him what the deal was from the get go? You should've suggested the rotation schedule in the e-mail.

Edit: Or maybe he figures you're a nerd and wouldn't go out on a Friday night anyways. ;)
