In the strangest wrinkle yet in a legal drama that pits the state of Florida and a car crash victim against a polo-obsessed Houston millionaire, the girlfriend of John Goodman is now his daughter.

The heir to an air-conditioning fortune, Goodman, 48, has legally adopted 42-year-old Heather Laruso Hutchins, whom he has been dating since 2009. The adoption, which took place in October 2011 but was not publicly disclosed until Tuesday, potentially allows Hutchins to control a third of the assets of a trust fund he set up for his two other children.

A Florida judge called the action "surreal" and a step into a "legal twilight zone" in a recent related ruling. The purpose of the adoption, however, is likely rooted in practical financial matters. Because of her age, Hutchins can avoid the legal stipulation that does not allow beneficiaries to take from the fund until they are 35.

I agree with everything except your first statement. This move will not effect the parents of the kid at all. A judge had already ruled that the trust fund was off limits in the wrongful death suit.

If anybody gets screwed over by this move its his minor children who will now only get 2/3 of the trust fund.


Sounds like he is afraid the wrongful death law suit will wipe out all his assests and he's trying to create himself a safety net.
What will be hilarious is when he is sent to jail, and his girlfriend blows her third of the trust fund on gigilo's and blow.

That's right by where I used to live and my parents live currently. That road is dangerous (I lost one of my best friends in high school back in 1988 or 89 there).

He is smart to protect his assets.

People are crying around here he should be arrested for incest now or child molestation. Fucking idiots.

Jesus, you are also one of the nitwits. Lol, incest! There is not really a whole not of laws against even screwing your own genetic children. There are laws against marriage (due to not wanting child births with a high outcome of recessive traits, which are bad a lot of times in humans).

The problem with being sued like this is his own assets are now frozen. It's hard to defend yourself with no money...this is the loophole that our system uses to nail many people.

Since the trust money was off limits, they cannot freeze it now and he can use it to fund his legal defense.

I was young but even I had tough questions when a church member's wife OD'd and then he married their adopted daughter (not sure if it was a legal adoption). He stepped down from his post as Deacon or whatever.

Dunno. The "daughter" was older... like, 19-21 years old or something. I had never heard of her and had no idea how long she had been with them. I knew his son who was probably 11-13yo when it happened but they left the church shortly after that. I bumped into him at Krystal's about 15 years later but didn't bring it up.

I think she might have been needy and they took her in but it happened so fast after his wife's death that there had to be a previously existing relationship. Also, the dead wife was not easy on the eyes. Hmm...

Adopting a grown woman that is not from your seed is perfectly legal and has nothing to do with incest.
