Would Windows XP blow up with a processor upgrade?

I have a motherboard that can support single or dual core AMD 939's.

Right now it has a single core and I want to upgrade to dual core. Will Windows crash when I try to boot with a different processor under the same installation of the OS? Has anyone tried this?

It should not crash, however it might not find the second core. I'm not sure how exactly to fix that, but I think you have to reinstall a driver in the device manager.

I did a swap from a single-core 3000+ to a dual-core 3800+. On the subsequent bootup, WinXP will discover "New Hardware" (an ACPI Multiprocessor PC) and then on the next boot you're ready to rumble. Have fun! :)

It should detect the second core. If it doesn't you might need to update your BIOS
