would wearing 5-10 lb ankle weights be beneficial for regular walking (ie work, school)?

just to add to your daily routines.....not including jogging.

also...anyone know a good place to buy a set of 20 lb dumb bells for cheap and a bar that can have weights added to it...like up to 60 pounds or whatever? which of the two would be better ?

Do do the ankle ones, supposed to be bad for your back. Now I have not heard anything bad about putting them on your wrest.

It would make sense. More weight to carry = more of a workout for your muscles. Just don't put too much weight or run with them; it'll put too much stress on your body, especially if you add weight too quickly.

My guess is that it's not recommended because it would make you more likely to injure yourself (short term) and more likely to cause repetitive motion injuries like stress fractures if used over a long period of time. If you want to strengthen your legs while walking, wear a heavy backpack with a good load-bearing waistbelt.
