Would touching a magnetic screwdriver tip to the side of a video card cause damage?

I just wonder if this would matter...the card wasnt plugged in or running or anything like that.

so all computer stuff is basically magnet safe except for memory sensitive things like hard drives?

even hard drives are essentially insulated against small magnetic fields by that giant steel case.

I always put my computers together with magnetic screwdrivers. Never had any problems.

As already stated, you're fine. I even use a magnetized screw driver on non-mission critical builds, just for ease of use. DB servers and the like I'm a bit more paranoid about heh.

I'm pretty sure there's only a problem if it's a relatively large magnetic force (relatively larger than that of a basic magnetic screw driver) and the actual flucation in magnetism is constant.

Magnetic screwdrivers, no.

Some ultra-strong magnet may induce significant electric currents in the circuitry though, possibly damaging it.
