Would this work?

Use a green and red cold cathode light as a HD activity light.

So when the HD is active the entire case would light up.

The only way I could see that happenning is if you were somehow able to connect the CC light to the mobo header, and even if you did do that, I highly doubt the header would put out enough juice for the CC.
 
How about if you use the mobo's hd light header to activate a small enough relay to swith on the power to the CC? The relay would have to be quick and hold up to constant switching.
 
It sounds like an awesome idea. It probably could work. I would agree with the idea of a relay. It sounds really cool to me.
