I was thinking about getting a Samsung 27" DynaFlat HDTV Monitor at Bestbuy. It can be found at http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=11064913&m=1&cat=24&scat=27.

To connnect it to my pc, I would get a Gainward Geforce 3 Powerpack with VIVO. It would be connected thought the Component Video In from my card to the tv.

My question is if this setup will work and if I could get high resolutions with it.

Thanx for your help

MOST TV-outs only output 800x600 and lower, so you may not be able to get high res. Also, and not sure on this, but the Tv-out will be putting out regular TV signals, so you won't get high-defenition quality probably. Which means typing would be impossible on that TV. I would reccomend buying a cheap monitor AND that, you can find refurbished 17 inch monitors for like 100 bucks.

i know most tv-out maxes out at 800x600, but would an hdtv max out at that too? it would make sense that the geforce3 would have digital out or something like that. especially since it says its an hdtv monitor

utterman - in my opinion, if you have enough money to buy an expensive-ass hdtv, then get a lcd monitor or a big 'ol 21" monitor and get a geforce3

Just an FYI - If you get an HDTV with an RGB input, you can run a standard monitor cable from your video card to the HDTV. If your video card supports custom resolutions, you can run either 1920x1080i or 960x540p.

For example, I have a Pioneer 610HD which has an RGB input, a Matrox G400 which supports custom resolutions and a monitor switchbox. When I want to play Unreal Tournament in HDTV on my big screen, I change the screen res to 1920x1080i and just flip the monitor switch box.

The only drawbacks to this (awesome) setup is overscan. The edges of the screen always get cutoff which is very hard to control (at least with the G400). Overscan can be annoying in games and depending on how bad it is, it can make using Windows on the big screen almost impossible.
