Would this video graphics card setup work?

I have a Radeon X1300 series card right now with a VGA and DVI monitor. I need to add a third monitor for work and I am thinking about getting this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161184 for the third monitor (VGA). Would this set up work? I have one of those Optiplex G280 minitowers from Dell.

You'd be better off getting something newer, just for driver support if nothing else.
Something like a PCI HD2400 might be cheaper if you can find one.

problem with this card is that i would need a dvi to vga converter, which i don't think i have one.

Forget the 7000 series card, try to find a HD1000 or 9XXX series for driver compatibility. IMO, the 7000 series would be very sluggish in day to day use.

I'm going to assume the x1300 is AGP. I've done what your trying to do and it worked, just try to get the PCI card as close in series as the AGP card. The PCI card can even be a 2000 series as well.
