Would this upset you?

I'm applying for a new vehicle loan and my bank, of four years, wants me to fax my paystub because they don't believe my income level.

no it wouldnt.. did they say right out "we dont believe you?" If they said it like that, then yes. But we had to show proof for loans

that's normal. Incidentally, they don't verify your income with the IRS (can't, not sure if law has changed but 7 years ago that was true), so slightly shady accountants have been known to fabricate stubs for people with lots of under the table income.

I would throw a hissie fit and storm the bank in only a leopard skin thong and chase customers out while hooting like a baboon

No, it would not upset me

Why should they believe you?

If you were loaning out money would you just believe the other persons word?

I think its normal.

I think his reasoning is that they are presumably receiving some or all of his payroll deposits, so that constant inflow of money would be indicative, although in actuality it's not proof of your actual salary.

No, I would do it. I had to for loans and things. It's just a check of your income. Think from the bank's perspective. They are giving a customer money. Why give out a $25,000 loan or whatever to a guy when we don't know if he can really pay it back. They are checking you are not the guy that makes $5 /hr...

I'd be ticked, you should storm in there and ask them if they know who you are!

Bring an assault rifle for show, trust me it will go over well, you will walk out with something far better than any draft.

Sounds like standard operating procedure to me. I had to do the same thing when I got my car loan about 3 years ago.
