Would this PSU survive a 4870?

APEVIA See-Through 500W ATX12V Power Supply

500W, 70% efficiency under full load. I'm confused, because Newegg says it has 2 12v Rails, but the manufacturer's site says it only has 1. At any rate, I assume I can create another 6-pin connector if there's a problem with the molex adapter.

I know I'm getting pretty close, but I'm not pushing any limits with the other hardware.

2 DVD Drives/Burners
3800x2 Athlon (Socket 939)
2 Gigs DDR RAM
Crummy motherboard... Nforce4
GeForce 7900 GT

Not sure if I can replace the 7900GT with a 4870 or not, due to the PSU...

Thanks!

Edit: I already own the PSU, and want to know if it could handle the HD4870.

I would say that Aspire/Apevia is almost the worst you could possibly do for a PSU brand choice. Are you looking for something inexpensive? Or something flashy/blingy? Because there are better choices either way.

Theres a reason they are called "flamers"

Don't even try to power it up, like Amber said I would not risk it.

One should never skimp on a PSU

I wouldn't power an HD4870 with that.

Then again, I wouldn't pair an HD4870 with an ancient Athlon 3800X2 either.

Alright; thanks, guys. I appreciate your honesty. Truth hurts, though, doesn't it?

Can you recommend an inexpensive PSU (not cheap, just inexpensive)? I'd like to get something that'd last me for many builds in the future... would something like this be a good deal?

Edit: With regard to H00fan 1, if you wish to provide feedback on the whole Athlon x2 issue, there's a topic here with lots of good feedback:

Besides, part of the purpose here is preparing for future upgrades.

Heh, thanks for the link. I was just thinking how I could have sworn I had read a review for that particular PSU and how it ended in epic fail. But after searching and not finding a review for it at JG, so I figured I must have gotten it confused for a review of a different blingy-looking Aspire/Apevia that rendered epic fail 😀.

APEVIA ATX-CW500WP4 500W ATX Power Supply 115/ 230 V UL, CSA, TUV, CE - Retail
Pros: To say this is the best power supply ever made is an understatement. I use nothing but Apevia PSU`s in my customers PSU`s. Mind you that I have many clients who are in the medical as well as industrial sector that need to have their systems stay online with no down time. These PSU`s are by far the most efficient and silent power supplies I have ever used. I purchase all my power supplies from NewEgg because the have the very best prices and the very best customer service.
Cons: No cons!
Other Thoughts: I would recommend these power supplies to anybody who needed a power supply that was built for mission critical work. You jusy cannot get any better than Apevia!

Way too funny!!! rofl...hahaaaaa

LOL, just like those guys that know so much about what they are doing, that they know INSTANTLY that if a motherboard gives a long repeating beeeeeeeeeep that the motherboard is dead, and thus that board brand instantly becomes "crap" and "will never buy again."
