Would this make for a cool sniper weapon?

I just thought of it. Well probably not. I may have recalled some from elsewhere but basically the gist of it is there would be a rifle on a motorized platform. There would be a tiny video camera that would stick out from behind a barrier and upon identifying a target the guy in charge of it, who would be hiding behind the barrier (rock, building, whatever) would be able to quickly have the rifle itself extend around the barrier, fire, and then withdraw leaving only the video camera showing the entire time and the rifle never showing for more than a couple of seconds. It seems like a safe way to take out a target while remaining hidden.

The military already has a gun with a camera on it that sends the image to a headset or small monitor. I saw it on the weapons of war thing on discovery or TLC. They can hold a machine gun around a corner and fire off rounds while seeing where the enemy is.

Kinda along the lines of bigshooter's post, they also have a helmet-cam system that aims the guns on the Apache helecopter to wherever the pilot is looking...

see the thread below this called "check out this cool new weapon!" or something like that. basically like that. the optics on the scope feed directly to the soldier. all he has to do is stick a gun around a corner to see and shoot (x-hairs on the optics). hell you could be like rambo, dont have to put it to the shoulder.

'cept the bird is exposed for that system. One reason the Apache's user Hellfires instead of TOWs: fire, and get down.

And that system is real cool until it shoots the bird you're in down. That happened to me while at Ft. Campbell, KY in 1982. No fun having 20mm shells flying at you and then autorotating to the ground. No one was hurt though.

Yep, that's the land warrior system... Each soldier basically carries a small computer on his/her back, and there's a small eye-piece mounted on the helmet... The gun has a camera on it, so the soldier can shoot the weapon thru the eye-piece without exposing himself...

The computer and camera also allow important information like enemy location sent back to the base and shared between everyone (you can have a map displayed on the eye-piece)... This lets the commanders make better decisions as well...
