Would this make a decent monitor for a PC?

monitors in general have better picture quality than TVs... for the most part

because the pixels are bigger or there are less of them on a TV, something like that

My roommate and I both have 26" LCD TV's with the same resolution that we use as secondary monitors. They're great for watching movies and playing games, and text is clear and easy to read.

I'm sure it will work. I have a 27" Viewsonic LCD TV on my media center and I occasionally use it to surf the web and play games. However with the screen being so large and resolution so low. Well the start button is like 3 inches wide. And playing games on it while really cool and all being so large sitting 3-4 feet away it gives me motion sickness.

Much too low resolution for my tastes, but for some people it might be alright.

I might consider one of the newer 1080P LCD's but even that doesn't give me enough - I need 1200 vertical pixels.

I won't buy a display with less than 1920x1200 resolution, & I don't intend to buy another monitor until I can afford something like Apple's 30" Cinema Display (2560x1600). Rumor has it Dell has a 30" panel coming out early next year, hopefully that will be a little more affordable than Apple's $2500. $1500 would be nice.

i was looking at the 30 inch display at work and noticed a few dead pixels (about 5 with in 3 square inches)

and another co-worker was talking about how they might have problems relating to that

so do a little research before deciding

also Viper, what refresh rate do you run them at?

im wondering where you find a monitor with such great resolution, they are almost non-exsistant in retail stores

There's plenty of selection in 1920x1200 models, in both 24" and 23". There are 37" 1080P sets available in virtually any electronics stores.

The only hard one to find is the Cinema Display, and at $2500 it's nowhere near my budget.

Refresh rate isn't really a concern, since you're going to be limited to typical LCD refresh rates anyway. I currently run two 21" CRT's (3200x1200, 85hz).

I have a 30" Cinema Display, and out of 4 million pixels, theres one dead one. I can live with that.
