Would this be unsafe?

i'm not sure what i'm supposed to catch here...

is the tank charged to >125PSI or something? i can't read the dial

is the bottom connection bypassing the top regulator - so all available pressure is on the hose?

if the pressure was too high the little valve with the ring on the bottom right would go off

125psi and yeah bypassing the top regulator. Seems to have quite a bit more kick to my impact which is just used for stubborn bolts/nuts. Just not sure how safe it is since I am still new with compressors.

Not sure why that would provide any more air than through the regulator unless the regulator is clogged or defective, or perhaps can't be set to tank pressure?

It should be safe with the blowoff valve.

Obviously more pressure will make the tool perform better, it's like the difference between a 12v cordless drill and a 18v cordless drill, more power is more work. It may damage the impact gun if you're running too much pressure, most pneumatic tools are designed to operate with 90psi max IIRC.

That would probably be unsafe. I think Kornphlake is right that most air tools are designed to work at around 90psi. At best you're wearing them out faster, at worst something could fail explosively.

+1... almost all air tools are designed to operate at 90psi, an impact wrench can break sockets etc (you are using black sockets right?)

With cheap air tools I would say yes it would damage them and pretty quickly too... But with quality stuff like IR, CP or Pro tools like Snapon and such no it wont really bother them... I run 175psi straight to my IR2135ti and my Snapon MG series impacts and they just kick @zz every day... Also have an older FAR series air ratchet that was the 150ftlb variable speed trigger and it loves the higher pressure just take care to not let it get away from you or pin you against someting...

Just a note I have an old IR231A that I bought brand new back in 1988 and ran it on 175-180psi air till around 2002 when it quit and yes it broke the hammer input from the motor just twisted it off... But hey 14 years of day to day use was to bad...

You get what you pay for with air tools... Dont ever use chrome non impact sockets with impact type tools your just asking to get hurt or damage stuff...
