I mentioned before that my friends k6-233 (compaq) system wasn't powerful enough to burn at 12x. (has a sony 12/8/32 burner)

Would this be enough?

this price is CDN. ($310 USD)

I know its not a great deal, but I want my friend to stop bugging me about how his computer sucks and wants me to make his burner work at 12x.

I just want to get a cheap upgrade package, put it in his computer and get him to stop calling me about his damn computer.

Here ya!!! got family like that...Gave them my old computer that I knew I had totally no issues...cut the calls down to only software installs now...

I think I would still have him step up to a duron...as the k62's even at 500 I though were a bit weak at dvd playback w/o decoder..playing mp3's while multitasking (ie internet)...

800mhz duron is like 36-40 bucks (US) at many reputable dealers...mobos are cheap as well with integrated chipsets and get 32mb video...

I'd tell him to get a cheap Duron and mobo with integrated everything. If he buys that k6-2 system, he'll be bugging you in a month.:)

If you can get him to part with that much more...I think it gives him a helluva system compared to what he has or was going to get...should be set for quite awhile...

couple things:

1) look forward to maybe giving him tech support with the radeon...ati drivers and all...picky install procedure (trust me I have one so I am not bashing it at all..)May wish to get something a bit more fool proofed....Is he a big gamer??? You were going to get him an integrated mobo w/ only 8mb...I think an integrated mobo w/ 32mb and bump the ram up to 192 or 256 since it will use system ram could be a route if he isn't a big gamer or 3d person...

2)asus is great board...a bit high price in theat area of kt133a boards...look at epox also solid but I bit cheaper and offers mor oc ability if he wishes...IMO

I'd be setting the whole system up myself. He knows nothing about drivers and such.

I'd put a copy of WinME on, set up all his stuff and let him be.

A duron 750 and 128mb and an a7v133 is overkill for him :)
