LA Invasion is coming this weekend. Debating if I should see these guys...
Note that out of the 3, I only listen to Foo Fighters somewhat often. I think they put on a good show.
I love GnR. I hate the lead from STP. Therein lies the VR dilemma
I saw Smashing Pumpkins on Live Earth. I was not impressed. I like a few of their songs (cherub rock, tonight^2, bullet with butterfly wings). Is their own live show better? I dig the bassist though.
Tickets are plentiful and I expect to pay no more than 30-50/ticket.

Show came and went. Incredible bargain for the show, about as good as my $15 g3 tickets heh ...
Anyway, wanted to get there about 6 for Chris Cornell. Ended up getting there a bit early for Cypress Hill. Saw these guys @Rock the Bells but was so far back I couldn't see shit. I'm not too into Cypress Hill. But I'm into herbage. And these guys rap about herbage. Alot. Anyway, they threw it down, had excellent crowd control and really got the crowd into it. Was pretty impressed.
Chris Cornell threw down a good performance, much better than I expected. Pretty much played all his works, from Temple of the Dog -> Sound Garden -> Audioslave -> Solo work. His solo work was meh, but the rest was fantastic. No "black hole sun" however.
Kid Rock was probably the surprise of the night. I generally regarded him as a no talent hack, but after his performance I actually have to change my opinion of him. Some of his work his still pretty questionable to me, but he threw down a killer set. The 4 trashy TRASHY ass girls on the stripper poles was questionable. But he threw it down on turntables, drums, AND guitar. Alot more talented than I would have expected. I actually dug some of the work from his new album - more old school/southern rock with an air of funk, way less hip hop. Covered Metallica, not so good. Covered AC/DC, excellent.
Velvet Revolver was an okay showing. The mic on the lead (sorry forget his name) needed to be turned up. Alot. Rest of the band was pretty good. Way better when they were covering/playing old GnR songs though (Patience, It's so Easy). Thought the singer was pretty incoherent during VR songs. Makes a pretty good "Axl Rose" tone though.
Foo Fighters killed it, as expected. Dave has complete and utter mastery of crowd control. Way better showing than their acoustic show IMHO. Tons of energy. Long set. Wish he would solo more still, but undeniably talented w/an incredible growl.
Smashing Pumpkins was a huge disappointment. A little too out there with their new music, esp. for a kroq crowd. Probably should've reserved those songs for a Smashing Pumpkins song. bassist is pretty hot though. Dig their outfits + stage setup. Fucking bombed the solo during "bullet with butterfly wings". Left after 3-4 songs along with the other half of the crowd. Little energy. Should NOT have gone on after Foo Fighters.
All in all, good show. Favorite part about KROQ shows is they use a circular stage, so at the end of each act it just rotates onto the next act = 5 hours of straight music.
