would this be a decent gaming TV?

Not familiar with the brand at all. And the pics people show of the weird problems with it would make me look elsewhere, like the display screen not actually going all the way to the edges of the bezel. Looks almost like a refurb something else they just put in a different case.

Probably not. No response time listed. Probably a cheap panel. It won't be better than your Phillips.

panasonic 42" 720p plasma $450

lg 42" 720p plasma $420
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...s=19&sku=A5757809&dgc=SS&cid=27530&lid=627063

if you have to have LED/LCD or 1080p (mostly dependent on viewing distance, or for frequent computer use)
there are a few vizios around that price

viewing distance chart assuming you have awesome visual perception prowess, otherwise 42" 720p is good to ~8ft and 1080p ~5.5ft

<3 my 50" 720p panasonic th-c50hd18. o_O it's about 5 years old now, hooked up to a ps3 for bluray and gaming goodness
man plasma efficiency has improved drastically :S, my 50" pulls ~330w (usu 200-400w depending on what's on screen) (typical 42" of that era were ~200-250w) and now they've brought it down to <100w

A very limited number of games on the ps3 even render in true 1080p, for example gran turismo 5 doesn't render in true 1080p (true 1080p being 1920x1080; many games will render [1280-1728]x1080, in various steps)

Yep, I agree. If response time and performance is a big deal and you're using it mostly for console gaming, no LCD can beat even a basic plasma.

720p is fine for gaming. If you can afford a 1080p plasma set, go for it. Otherwise it's only beneficial on really large sets or if you sit too close.

Ive decided not to buy a new TV. I cant find what I want for the right price. Maybe if i had the extra $ I would but right now I cant justify it.

I lied

I bought it

UGH I cant believe I bought it. Im going to throw up. Granted it was 766.42 still This is why poor people shouldnt be allowed to have credit. Im sure ill be fine with the payments but its still scary spending that much.

Im going to give my pioneer tv to my son for his birthday along with my XBOX360 so this was a replacement. I suppose if you subtract the price I would have paid for a new TV for him its not so bad. Thats just poor rationalization though.

damnit, oh well. I like the android function of the TV.

The search is awesome. You can register netflix, amazon and hbo and when you search it crawls all three to pull movies and shows.

It side loads alot of android apps so I can bring extra function to it.

The Chrome browser is a little slow and I dont know how to open multi tabs but otherwise nice.

I just hope Google gets behind it more. I would like to see functionality like google now and currants. That would be awesome.

I'm returning the LG TV and buying the 50" panny fox linked. I hope it doesn't go up in price before I can buy it.

Hey guys,
I've been in a very similar situation as you. I've been playing on LCD LED Lit TVs for a while and realized I want a better TV for my PS3 and Blu-rays. And I've gone with Panasonic as well. Good advice to go that direction. I went with the ST60 based on some of the tests these guys ran. So I was fairly confident going into it. I tested the lag on the Samsung I was using and the plasma was a little better than I what I've been playing on. Cutting it down to 80ms made a big difference, but I've read that even that is pretty high. I am not bothered by it though. Either way I'm happy with my Panasonic. Hope you are too! Would love to hear how yours is. Hope you are enjoying battlefield 3 as much as I am.
