If Kurt hadn't met his untimely death would Dave Grohl have formed the Foo Fighters? I'm just kinda curious what others think about this. I really respect what Nirvana did but I have to admit I like FF's music alot better than Nirvana. So do you think if Kurt doesn't die the FF ever happen.

What I think: Personally I think the fact the Cobain was so disenfranchised with music that he probably would have eventually dropped out of site atleast for a while. I think Grohl would have formed the FF or another group simply because he is such a energetic guy and pretty talented to boot.

FF are pretty good and they've avoided the "band that sounds exactly like the band that the main guy was in, but not as good" trap that many spin-offs hit.

Grohl would've done something after Nirvana ended (one way or another), but it would've been harder without Nirvana's success to launch him.

Nirvana was so good. I don't listen to them anymore but I remember basically wearing out my Nevermind album.

Nirvana was definitely excellent, but I think Dave G. was going to eventually get sick of the 3-man-band thing and start doing more polished stuff on his own. They probably would have gone the solo-album route if Kurt were still around, and if that had taken off for Dave, who knows if he would have gone back...

I hear you on that one,, I kinda doubt that he would not be inclined to go back if they wanted to keep Nirvana going.

Well, people's priorities change. Some band members leave and find out that they kind of like running their own show and not having to put up with the compromises that being in an equal-footing band entails. Some leave to find out that it's a big, dark world out there, and it's hard for a start-up band to get any sort of recognition even with a brand-name frontman. I don't know enough about the relationships that made up Nirvana to guess at where it would have gone, but you can be that when all three of them turned 60, they'd be putting together a Nirvana reunion tour and charging $1000 per ticket. :)

I think that everything in life and in death happens for a reason ... Dave G. and Courtney Love are two people who have made amazing life changes that happened because of the Death of Kurt Cobain. Obviously it was meant to be... Just like I wouldn't be the same person today that I am if my father hadn't died when he did.

If Grohl was never in Nirvana the Foo Fighters would never have received national attention and most likely would have disbanded by now.

ya i think that if cobain hadnt died that the foo would never have happened, what would of happend is that nirvana would have released one or two more albums them because of kurts disgust with fame they wold have broken up only to get back to gether after they all had matured and gotten out of thier hard drug phase, then they would have released anew album, that would have broken all record sales records too bad it's not gonna happen.

I think your right on about Nirvana,, I think they would have taken time off and eveltually done more recording and touring. I just found myself thinking on the way to work, if Cobain lives one of my current favorite bands probably never would have exsisted, and since music has such a huge effect on my life I would have been somewhat diferent than I am now perhaps. It's funny how things that seem pretty unrealted to you at the time can have an affecdt dwon the road.

The Foo Fighters would have eventually evolved, one way or the other. Even if Kurt did not kill himself. The three band members in Nirvana were developing their own musical aspects and were just tired of the whole Nirvana thing. In some interviews Kurt said he was interested in doing music as a solo artist, REM-style music.

Who knows...

[Edit]
As for Krist Novoselic (the bass player), he's been pretty quiet about the whole Nirvana/Kurt thing since Kurt's death. After all, he knew he for about 9 years or so. He's in a band called Sweet75, nothing big. He's also the founder of an anti-censorship organization called JAMPAC (website).
