My buddy is doing this page for a class and the actual place and I noted to him that the maroon text doesn't read well with the blueish back ground.

Any ideas what colors would be good here?

Also if you have any ideas in general about the page let me know. The important news thing will eventually be a ticker to it's just still at the moment.

Go to a lighter blue instead of this medium blue you are using. It is difficult to read. When designing web pages for elderly, make sure to use very dark letters on very light backgrounds. Also, don't get carried away with fancy fonts. They have difficult reading fancy stuff.
