Would SLI work with laptop internal gpu with thunderbolt eGPU?

I was thinking about getting a laptop such as the dell 7577 that has a gtx 1060 and a thunderbolt port and add an another 1060 with a eGPU and run it in SLI, would it work?

Or what about getting a laptop that doesn't have a thunderbolt and using xcsource?

Someone will probably tell me I'm wrong, but unless something changed for the GTX 1060 in laptops compared to desktop GPUs, GTX 1060 is not capable of SLI.

I don't know if it will work, but do yourself a favour and stay away from SLI. It's tech that's very much on the way out, and it's always been problematic in terms of game support, frame times, and choppiness. Even if you somehow get it "working", nvidia doesn't officially support sli on anything below a 1070.

That I will have to leave for someone else to answer, because I have no idea. I do know they sell some higher-end laptops with GTX 1070 in SLI already.

You can get internal dedicated GPU and external GPU connected to the same CPU in laptop, and they can work as two separate GPUs, but they won't cooperate in SLI, which needs at least PCI Express x8 for each GPU. Also, where would the SLI bridge go?

I would be amazed if you could get this working. Nvidia and AMD certainly don't support this, so you'd have to have some kind of custom drivers that make the cards talk to each other. Then there's the problem of the SLI bridge connector, which is physically absent from the laptop GPU. You might be able to get around that problem by using AMD GPU's since they can bridge through the motherboard, but then you're still back at the no software support problem. It's definitely not as simple as plugging an external GPU in that matches the GPU in the laptop.

Honestly, just buy a laptop with enough GPU power to do what you want. Companies make monster laptops with SLI 1080's if you need that much power. They weigh about as much as a car, but they exist.

I would consider it a waste of money even trying this. It's much better to get a gaming laptop with a 1080 in it, or small form factor desktop which you can build to spec.
