would putting a sub on a stand help in an apartment?

I'd like to put a nice 10" woofer in my system down the road, but I live in an apartment on the second floor. Would putting it on a heavy stand help at all, or would it just kill the sound and render the sub pointless? My current "fix" was putting bass shakers in the couch for bass notes.

lol. that's what I'm trying not to do. my logitech sub went through the floor in my house easily, so I'm wondering if a stand would help reduce that at all.

Apartment = no sub

If you were above me, I'd be knocking on your door. :p

I'm on the 2nd floor and I keep the bass on my home theater at about 1/4 - 1/3.

you are free to bass from 8am-8pm imho. Bass travels through walls, and floors, so there is nothing you can do to hide it other than not having it turned on.

Apartment = No Sub

It sucks, but it's life. Don't be 'that person.' I got a kick ass sound system and half of it just collects dust, that is until July when I close on my house :).

Yeah, I had considered it earlier before moving into the apartment and decided to go with bass shakers with YOyoYOhowsDAjello's help. I mean, I can turn up the bass on the speakers and it blends nicely with the bass shakers in the couch (they don't emit sound, they just make your couch shake...Jurassic Park is awesome!). I'm waiting on some new equipment to arrive before listening to how the system sounds in the new, larger room. I figured that a sub would be out of the question, and I'm not one to annoy the neighbors, so I'll stick with bass shakers until I get a house :)

HD570s, perfectly happy with them, but I'm getting married next week. Cuddling while watching a movie or listening to music = not so fun with 2 sets of headphones on :D

Placing the sub on a couple of heavy concrete garden stones will help reduce acoustic coupling.

Some guy reviewing a set of Logitech speakers on Amazon made a box out of MDF and filled it with sand. It supposedly helped with the sound quality, and I think it would help cut the bass that travels through the floor.

Hmmm....looking at Condos (flats) in downtown Portland.

Maybe...MAYBE...might need to sell of these Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultras, huh?

Yup, for the z-3's. I think I'm going to skip the sub for now, however. Too much hassle and possible problems.
