Might help a tiny bit, but it won't overcome poor physical skills. Just a touch more polish on developed skills.

No, hell no, with a side order of nope.

Do gamers give a single f' that every NPC on their own side died?

It's like asking if a kid who can do pretty good on some cooking themed gaming app can be a better chef than a trained chef.

Yup, that's about what I had in mind. I was pretty sure I had read about a study that said something similar, but I only had a weak grasp of the details. I read stuff all over, and it's been awhile. I'm not sure that's exactly what I read, but video games can have benefits on real life performance.

They might be better at marksmanship but probably not ready for boot camp.

Interestingly, old war vets do love their Call of Duty.

they play entirely different too.
I played a BF2 project reality mod game with a bunch of real marines.
Stay together as a group, move as a group, move to exactly where the squad leader tells you to move.
Don’t randomly fire your weapon or you will get a steaming to.

There was that game the army or some military branch developed or was involved in its development, to help with recruiting if I remember right. Fuck if I can remember the name without googling it.

ARMA made some simulators for the military
There was also the Army FPS which I forgot the name of. People used to say it was pretty good.

It's probably a decent way to hone maybe 3% of the necessary skills. But nothing more.

I would love to see a bunch of gamers running around bunny hopping all over a battlefield. And of course see a IRL tea-bagging!

Well, they train surgeons for keyhole surgery with computer simulations, do they not? And apparently my own recent surgery involved a 3d computer model constructed from an MRI scan being used to guide the surgeons.

I mean, my immediate reaction to the OP was a snorted 'no!'. Shooting people and being shot at (not to mention lugging heavy pack across long distances and all the other heavy physical labour) is clearly a very very different thing from mastering a keyboard and mouse. But then again, when warfare sometimes involves sitting in a control room remotely-piloting a drone, I wonder if there isn't more of an overlap than there once was?

I mean, it's less games getting more realistic than, maybe, some aspects of warfare becoming more game-like?
