Would NV5 Silencer reduce artifacts?

I'm currently using an eVGA 6800GT with stock cooling at 410/1080. If I increase the core speed on it by as little as 4mhz (to 414), I see artifacts everywhere in 3dmark05. At 420mhz, 3dmark will run for a while but will eventually freeze and/or reboot. The card runs at about 56 idle and around 77 at full load. If I installed NV5 Silencer on the card, would this allow me a higher overclock without freezing or artifacts?

i really want to know the awnser to this question also. my card wont go above 405/1100 or else it artifacts like a mofo. my load temps are about 78C, 50C idle.
Thanks,
Nick

There's no way to tell. Everyone's results will vary. The stock cooler is actually pretty good already, so you may be at your limit.

Actually, the NV silencer will lower your Temps alot. THe stock cooler can't compare really.
What this means, atleast in my experience is that you can OC abit or alot more no matter how poor/good the core is when you stick a silencer on it. This is from past experiences with 9800 pros/9700 pros.

No not necessarily. A lot of stock coolers are very nice. The NV SIlence might or might now lower temps depending on the stock HSF. The EVGA is actually very nice but the NVSilencer will lower it a little as it is copper and a 2 slot design.

Additionally upgrading will not necessarily increase OC's. Most of the time GPU's dont reach there limits because of temperature. Most of the time it is due to the limitations of the chip, (ie might not have enough voltage, not a good batch of Silicon etc).

My concern is that while I may be able to overclock to 450/1200 without crashing, I will have artifacts everywhere. Has anyone actually seen fewer artifacts with NV5 Silencer installed?

EDIT: I think the above post probably answered my question.

I could be WAY off here ... but is OC'n a gfx card limited by your cpu? Maybe its just the brand of gfx card .. but it seems people that cant OC their card, say to what mine is at, are running a slower cpu. Maybe just a coincidence?

I have the eVga and replaced the cooler with an NV5. Before NV5 I was stable (artifact/misplaced-polygon free) @ 406/1080. After NV5 I was stable (artifact/misplaced-polygon free) @ 420/1130. After NV5 and Thugs Gainward Golden Sample BIOS flash I am stable (artifact/misplaced-polygon free) @ 440/1196! Big thanks goes out to Thugs 😉 for making this BIOS mod easy and effective! Yes to answer your question Pak. With the NV5 you can achieve higher core and ram speeds with the absence of artifacts/misplaced poly's. AS5 helps here as well. What holds me back now is volts. Im good now and dont dare want to take the risk to volt mod lol.
