Would next-gen cards (Q1 07) single card power games at 1920x1200?

With the doubling of performance at around 6-8 month cycle...

it seems that I should be able to play Crysis and Stalker with a single card solution by early summer 2007.

or will the performance doubling be observed in Q2 instead?

I don't see why not, the new cards G80 and R600 should do crysis at that rez with eye candy easily I would think.

what i know: i'm not going to buy both games in the first few months. if they come out dec 2006 or jan 2007 then i'll reserve them for end of spring/early summer gaming.

scenarios: buy a 19" 2ms monitor (should be sub $240 by that time) and play them at highest quality setting with minimal impact on fps
or
game them on current 24" widescreen and hopefully no fps hiccups
or
game them on current 24" widescreen with additional gfx card (additional $400)

with the above, i'd rather fork out a 19" 2ms monitor on a single DX10 card than game on 24" widescreen on sli/crossfire with $400 additional card.

thoughts?

What if you go in between to a 20 inch widescreen at 1680x1050? That's what I'll be doing.

eh.. i dunno about that.. can a 1900xtx run fear cranked up that high? Im not sure but i would guess no.. if anyone knows otherwise please correct me. It seems like games are getting more and more demandin relative to whats currently out now... back in the day nothin would be as taxing as a game like fear or oblivion relatively. So if crysis continues the trend then i wouldnt think one generation after that could handle such a high res.

Well Crysis has been shown to run fine with crossfire x1900xts in DX9, which means as long as R600 comes close to doubling it, they should run it without problems, also considering the DX10 path will be faster

I believe the new cards coming out later this years will be good for at least 2048x1536 or 1900x1200 for widescreen... specially considering they will use GDDR4 which eliminates memory bandwidth problems with AA and high resolutions

Question is at what res ?
