Would motorcycles be safer if there were no cars...?

My dad will flip a ****** if you mention the word 'motorcycle' and literally said that he'd cut me off financially if I were to buy one, LOL. But yeah, wouldn't we be a lot better off if people were to ride motorcycles instead of cars since motorcycles weigh a whole lot less and make sense considering that you're just moving people...

Naturally humans enjoy speed.
Motorcycle + Speed = 99% chance of collision.
Plus what the heck are we gonna do in the winter or if it rains. Or we need 4 wheel drive?
How the heck are we gonna get 4 wheel drive on a motorcycle?

Yeah cause motorcycles are a practical vehicle for day to day activities. Also, what the hell kind of argument is they weigh less? I would think a bit more before posting

I own a motorcycle, and I think motorcycles in the US would be safer if the cars were the sizes like they are in Britian and or Asian countries.

The bigger the cars/trucks here in America, the bigger they weigh (splat!) and the harder it is to see stuff smaller than you.

But most of all accidents on motorcycles are within 5 minutes, close to home, and user error when not taking precautions for certain road conditions (ie gravel, sand, bumps, rocks etc.)

Motorcycles would be safer when they add two wheels, a steel frame and doors on it.

So what happens when I goof off at golf courses on the golf carts and flip them over?

Uh, you would get crushed I would think, just a random guess.

What does using less fuel have to do with anything? I thought this was about safety.

OK, how about some actual facts.
First, the majority of motorcycle fatalities happen when the rider's been drinking or doing drugs. This component of safety won't change if there are fewer cars. The fact remains that motorcycles punish stupidity much more thoroughly than cars--how many drunk drivers crash into someone and survive? This, I think, is if anything a good thing.

The other really big killer is going too fast around a corner and running off the edge...well, this one is really because most people who ride motorcycles are young and love speed. Simple responsibility takes care of that one.

The biggest killer that doesn't involve the motorcycle involves cars not paying attention, and turning into an intersection (right on red, or unprotected left) right in front of a motorcycle. This wouldn't be nearly as big a problem if everyone rode a motorcycle, because people would notice motorcycles more, people turning would spend less time in the intersection at low speeds, and crashes wouldn't be quite as deadly.

Snow and ice is a problem, though, unless you have a sidecar. Rain, not so much really.

Funny, everyone in SE Asia seems to think so. You'd be amazed what you can carry on just a simple little 125cc scooter.

SE Asia ? U.S. However, if you wanna try that over here go ahead, lemme know how it works out.

depending on your day-to-day activities, they can be pretty practical.

I've often thought about getting one just to drive to/from work, and keeping my car at home just to use when I need to go shopping or go out with friends.

maybe we should ask God to eliminate the midwest, and get rid of Alaska, and all unnecessary areas so we can all move into the cities and get around on mopeds and never travel outside that city and make plane tickets 1 cent per mile

Pretty narrow-minded, huh? The only reason why everyone uses cars here is because they're used to it, not because there's something fundamentally broken about the idea of a motorcycle. Most of those people you see driving to and from work every day could do it just the same on a motorcycle, most months of the year.

And for the record, I DO use my motorcycle to commute, and it works great. Plus, I don't have to pay for parking, or spend hours a week driving around the block waiting for a space to open up. When I need to buy a lot of groceries, or drive people around, I take the car. Easy.

It isn't just day to day activities, you have to take into account the weather...which eliminates using a motorcycle in any place prone to snow in the Winter...which is much of the North East...along with a bunch of other areas this year. Then there's the unexpected rain or more then average windy days. There's a ton of variables that make a bike not worth it.

I don't even know why I bothered typing this, it's such a useless topic to begin with

Alright, let me try it this way:

South East Asia - 1.6 million sq miles
Population ?610 million

United States - 3.5 million sq miles
Population ?300 million

Do you see why it's so much easier for people to get around on a motorcycle in SE Asia? We have over twice the space but half the people, everything in SE Asia is a lot closer... so yes, over there, for transportation motorcycles work fine.

Dirt bikes with high efficiency motors ftw? Or ****** just change your tires on your motor cycle to dirt bike tires? I dunno, not to knowledgable about bikes...

Ah, and here I was forgetting that motorcycles are incapable of driving more than 40 miles a day😕

The weather argument is a good one. The distance argument, is not.

I thought the whole point of this thread was to answer the question of "wouldn't we be a lot better off if people were to ride motorcycles instead of cars?".

My short answer: No, not by a long shot

I never knew you could ride a car either. (Aimed at OP, not jagec)
