actually, yes. I honestly do think that he is one of the more exceptional people to run for president in my lifetime. It is too bad that he is running against Obama and is hostage to the extreme right Republican platform.

Romney at his core is about competency through rigorous analysis. I like that. He is certainly better than McCain or George W Bush.

If Romney is the best this country can come up with, we are screwed, really really screwed.

He seems like a nice guy. Good family life, successful in business, has "executive experience" as a governor. If his tax plan was less ridiculous he'd be rather ideal.

The times make or break Presidents as much as anything else. There are a number of things that aren't being addressed, like the issue of sustained employment, but I don't expect Romney to do any better or worse steering the decrepit ship of state.

he'd probably be like GHWB.

neither notably good or bad.

The issue really is the Congress. If the democrats controlled congress a Romney presidency might be okay since he's not much of a partisan and he would work with them.

At the same time, I do not see him confronting the idiot wing of the Republican party. He will never have a "sister soulja" moment IMO. Since there is a good chance that Republicans will gain seats in 2012, Romney would likely be a disastrous presidency.

Being a Moderate at best, or a Leftist champion of Obamacare at worst, Romney is a big gov Neocon who'd love nothing more than to continue the Bush and Obama policies.

If you liked Bush, you'll love Romney. Least he's not singing 'Bomb Bomb Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran' like the last bozo. He'll do it though, and then he'll park our troops in the streets of major Iranian cities so they can die by the thousands the way Bush did in Iraq.

The man will speak of small government and enact fascist policy. Watch as he signs an expansion of the Patriot Act, warrantless wiretapping, TSA for all sporting events, rail ways. You want your children visually stripped and then physically molested by federal employees you'll love Romney.

The man is no conservative. He'll continue the American age old policy of being for the government and against the people. In my mind that makes him a bad President.

No. But then I don't think anybody would really be a good president. It's an office with too much power.

Come on, at a minimum Romney is likely to be better than GWB and BHO. He's a smart guy who has been successful in business and in public service. On paper he's the best candidate we've had in a long time.

Saying that is like saying that Stimpy (of Ren and Stimpy) would be a better candidate than Beavis or Butthead. Perhaps, but I wouldn't vote for any of the 3 of them. It's impossible to say if Romney would be a good candidate because not even he knows what his stand on most issues is. He's changed his mind so many times I couldn't even begin to say what his official platform is. He just tries to pander to whoever he thinks he needs to pander to today. Then again, at least he's not claiming he'll get a moon base.

in the profiles I've read, Romney most resembles BHO.

It is arguable that Romney would work the office more than Obama, who does have a sort of laid back demeanor IMO to how he pushes people in Congress. Also, if you compare their "private sector" experience you will see that Romney's experience is far superior to the "community organizer" that Obama worked as, and that Obama's community organization might have made him slightly pessimistic in nature.

But goddamn the Republican party is just that bad.

No because he's a national socialist. He doesn't want to reduce federal revenue, he doesn't support free market health care, and he supports heavy ass foreign intervention. With Obama as President and Republicans in Congress, government revenues won't increase.

What exactly does Romney offer that Obama doesn't other than Romney's guaranteeing a war against Iran and China? I think that Obama would go to war against Iran, but I'm not absolutely certain that he would.

A poll of Romney supporters found 47% of them want another candidate other than Romney. HIS own supporters want someone else!!!

52.7% of Obama voters wanted someone else in the primaries in 2008.

it's a multi-candidate field. this isn't shocking stuff.

When you come up with a poll showing Obama's 2008 supporters wanted someone else during the primaries, then you'll actually have a valid point.

After GWB and obummer, a cardboard cutout of Chuck Norris would look like a great president. I'm sure Romney would do better than either of the presidents preceding.

it seems like a safe assumption, given that he only won 47.3% of the popular vote in the primaries (so presumably, 52.7% of his general election supporters wanted someone else but still showed up to vote for their team anyways when it mattered)

There is a good chance that Republicans will gain Senate seats. (a very good chance) It is also very likely that they will lose House seats.

That's in the general where I'm sure repubs will vote for Romney should he become the nominee. I'm talking about Romney's own current supporters, not the entire republican party. o_O

Intelligence wise probably yes. But things he has said during the primary and things done in the past lead me to believe he is too detached from reality.
