Do you have a problem with your current vid board? You can get standalone TV Tuner cards...ATI even makes one called the TV Wonder...I had one, and it worked great. Do you need a new video board?

you can grab a generic TV/FM tuner off fleabay for about 50 bucks. The quality isnt the greatest but for the price its a pretty good deal.

I LOVE my Hauppauge WinTV Stereo. Captures video nicely, FM quality is better than any other radio in the house, and the remote was nice until I stepped on it.

My PBTV5 in my P200 is OK, not the best quality but considering it's in a Packard Bell, what can one expect?

My ATI All-In-Wonder (Rage II chipset) is pretty good too, although I can't find software for it for Windows. Runs rather well in Linux (anyone know where I can get the Windows software for this card? It's the original AIW, 4MB of memory. ATI's site doesn't have the software for it).

If you are using Win2k do not get an ATI TV tuner as they don't work in Win2k. Hauppage tv tuners do work in Win2k, though. I have a Hauppage WinTV GO and it's an excellent card for the price I paid. I got it onsale at OfficeMax a few months ago for $30. I think the regular price for them is $40. It doesn't have stereo sound(mono only), or the radio tuner, but it's still a great card at a good price.

If you are going to be using this TV tuner card in Win2K then I guess you have to skip the excellent ATI TV Wonder. I love it in W98. I wouldn't recommend the "ve" version though. The FULL version can be had (retail-boxed) on the web for around $61-65 and it's worth every littly penny.

I would also have to give the nod to the ATI TV Wonder over any of the Hauppauge cards. I have had them both and the ATI TV Wonder is better in terms of everything - quality, capturing, features, etc.

However, there are only beta Win2K drivers available and from what I hear, they do not work very well. My only gripe with ATI is that their driver support sucks. This goes for the Radeon to the TV Wonder. I am perfectly happy with my setup on Win98SE, but I will say that this was the only piece of hardware not supported when I was dual booting Win2K. I probably would have made a complete switch if it was supported and gaming was a bit better in Win2K.

As far as Hauppauge, they update their software and drivers too much. At first I thought it was cool, but I quickly realized that it was to fix bugs and most of the time new ones were introduced. Their card(401) kept crashing and their support sucks. ATI always answers their phone and the techs are very knowledgeable. They helped me with some advanced mpeg capturing questions. Too bad they do not put more effort into driver development.

I have heard good things about the newer 3dfx tuners, may want to check out their Win2K support.

The TV wonder drivers for win2k are pretty good if you have Direct X 8 installed. there is still a bug with the video capture but the the tv tuner runs just as good as the win95/98/me drivers.

First of all if you decided to buy a TV-Turner card, here is some "nasty" suggestion.

At CompUSA the following items all listed $49.99

WinTV-GO PCI TV Tuner Card
ATI TV Wonder VE (NTSC) TV-tuner / Video Capture PCI Card
VOODOOtv 100 TV Card, PCI
Pinnacle Systems Studio PCTV, PCI TV Tuner Card with Video Capture.

Try them all, because they allow open item to be exchange but NOT return. ;)
