would like to move to CA but i'm afraid of earthquakes. unfounded fear?

Growing up with Hurricanes, they are easily less frightening. You have up to 2 weeks warning before a big one hits. Only very few of them will wreak utter havok on an entire city.

Probably even fewer earthquakes will be as destructive...but you have zero warning. Fucking zero warning. and the ground moves. ....what the fuck?

hurricanes...maybe. but tornados scare me FAR more than earthquakes. i've been living here 13 years, and never experienced anything more than a slight rumble.

The fires only happen in the hilly areas and that's where the mudslides are as well. I don't live in any of those nice areas where that kind of stuff happens so it doesn't bother me.

the only earthquake of memorable note to me was the one that hit LA in 1994
